That whole album is a glorious thing. Top stuff Niall!
Top stuff indeed!
Thanks for all that detail. I was an avid listener to Capital Radio in the 70’s and a big fan of Chris Rainbow. I was aware he was recording his 3rd album at Scorpio at the time and wrote to him. I got a reply on a Scorpio studio card which I still have – I unearthed it again during our house move last year. I vividly remember buying the single “All Night” on a hot summery day and playing it about 15 times in a row – I must have driven the neighbours mad!
It was hard to be a Capital listener back in the late 70s without also knowing that Supertramp recorded their album ‘downstairs’ as they mentioned it loads of times.
One fact checking point… I’m not sure when Kenny & Cash started on the breakfast show but it was certainly very late ’73 or early ’74 by which stage David Symonds had already been sidelined – I think he may have had a show on a Saturday morning.. Somewhere I have some programme listings. I think Kenny Everett may have already moved to his weekend slot by 1976 as it was him that introduced me to Steely Dan via The Royal Scam – I think he was replaced on the Breakfast show by Graham Dene.
Thanks @johnw, great background. Looks like you’re correct about the change at the Breakfast Show – I’ve amended the date.
