So we take it for granted that Irma Thomas is a great singer. (See Jorrox’s post below).
The question is – which of these two albums is best?
Simply Grand – great songs and extraordinary accompanying fro exceptional pianists. Crystal clear production from Scott Billington.
Or
My Hearts in Memphis – of course good songs and Dan Penn production – superb horns and that Memphis bottom end.
In my mind the second one edges it – she’s so comfortable in that context. The ending of Zero Willpower says it all.
If you haven’t heard either of these – why not?

It’s Friday night. What else you gonna do?
I’ve heard neither, but from your descriptions it’s the second one for me!
But just listen to the first one – it’s great!
Then the second one!!
I’ll have to do the same as RD and give them both a virtual spin…
I’m plumping for the second one by description.
I am now going to listen to both on Spotify, Youtube, whatever, and will confirm in a day or so
Can I have After The Rain please? It was recorded with New Orleans musicians shortly after Katrina. It has more passion.
No – it’s in the rules – you can only pick one of two!!
Where’s Jorrox?
