Yep, they were. When I first became aware of UFO (Strangers in the Night, I think) I worked backwards, as you did. Their early stuff wasn’t for me but at their peak they had something different from a lot of their peers.
I’ve never heard anaglypta mentioned in any other songs.
As above, I loved UFO back in the day. The albums were a bit ropy – even the good ones – but they were great live. And the first MSG album represented the peak of my own metal years. I think I’ve still got my signed copy of the live album somewhere too. Did anyone else queue up at HMV for that?

Strangers in the Night is a great live album. Michael Schenker was a wonderful guitarist.
