Never heard of Peter Bruntnell? For shame! Well, he has a new album out on 4th October called Houdini and the Sucker Punch, which is his 15th. He’s Britain’s most unsung, underrated, under the radar potential superstar who specialises in sensitive singer-songwriter fare of the highest calibre. Houdini is chock full of Beatlesque, Byrdsy ringing guitars in mostly upbeat songs with a strong element of minor key melancholy. Unlike many who’ve been around for a while, Peter Bruntnell’s albums just get better and better, and this one is a real cracker. It’s available on pre-order from his website or from Bandcamp. Treat yourself.

Thanks for that. The singer in my new band recommended Mr Bruntnell and suggested I start with 1999’s Normal For Bridgwater, which is great (and I was pleased to see the excellent lead guitar is by James Walbourne, now a Pretender). I’ll give this new one a go.
A new Peter Bruntnell release is always something to celebrate, & this new album is particularly strong – apparently effiortless songwriting that manages to be catchy & yet still improves with with repeated listens. I’ve ordered my signed copy from PB’s website, but sadly he’s not playing mu neck of the woods this time around.
Having literally stumbled across PB with his band playing a little pub in a tiny village in Pembrokeshire a dozen years ago -booked a table for pub grub on a family holiday & seeing a chalk board outside was anticipating a local covers band – so was astounded to fall in love after 1 song- I feel a serendipitous personal connection to his music. Like many others I’m stupefied he remains a ‘songwriter’s songwriter’ & not at the very least more widely celebrated, if not a household name.
So if you see he’s playing within range of you on one of his minuscule tours, do check him out.
He’s more than good, he’s got that ‘x factor’ whiff of genius about him IMO.
