I was delighted to read that Finland has chosen PKN to represent them in Eurovision. It may be a small country but it has an uncanny ability to go its own idiosyncratic way. I was delighted when Lordi gave Finland its first every ESC victory. Now I have something new to smile about.
They’ve gone for a middle-aged punk band with disabilities. How un-show-biz can you get? They hope “to raise awareness of people with learning disabilities – and “have a fucking good time” along the way.” A commendable mission statement.
I know that Eurovision is one big, ridiculous circus and has little to do with music as we know it here on the AW. But I’d like to think that these four both ordinary and unordinary Finnish chaps can liven it up and do some good along the way.
I confess a vested interest. We have a Down Syndrome daughter and something like this sends a message to her, her pals and kids with disabilities all over Europe: the world is full of all kinds of possibilities that you never even dreamt of.
I will of course encourage her to go into atonal jazz or form a prog band rather than be interested in the ESC.
Sting Ono is a big fan of PKN. He’ll also be chuffed at this I hope.

That`s fuckin` brilliant KFD. I work with people with learning & physical disabilities and this can only be positive in raising awareness of individuals who have so much to offer if given the chance.
Have a fucking good time? At Eurovision?
I think KFD`s comment has more to do with the band than Eurovision Moose.
They are Finns, Moose. They have an incorrigible ability to have a good time to have fun under even most arduous circumstances.
You are so right Baron. Hopefully it will mean that the public will get to learn a bit more. And a lot of kids and adults like the ones you work with will realise that they too can have a dream.
I’m sure PKN didn’t dream of ESC. But given the chance: why not do it?
I was just talking to a Finnish woman who works army daughter’s school who told me that the song’s lyrics have a message relating to PKN’s feelings about being outsiders.
Shame that no one will understand!
Brilliant. Did you see this story recently, @kaisfatdad?

I certainly did DG! That went straight onto my FB page.
How odd. The site is suddenly refusing to embed pictures for me (it’s blacklisted me for YouTube links, too!). Must have been something I said.
Hi @drakeygirl
You need to put photo/youtube links on their own line, so enter a carriage return after your text and then paste in the photo link. I just added one in to your comment above and voila!
Thanks, Tim.
