Thanks for the positive comments.
If you want more Paul Du Noyer in your life, he’s going to be a guest on the Charity Shop Classics radio show that myself and Doctor Volume frequently host (https://www.facebook.com/CharityClassics?fref=ts ). The date for your calendar is 25/10 at 11:00 on allfm.org
If you have any particular questions for him, let me know and we might try and tackle a few on the show.
Excellent piece, thanks for that. Read a few of your otherswhile I was there, which were equally good. If I could work out how to follow someone on Blogger I woukd follow you!
Thanks but a bit depressing too. Doesn’t keep up to date with music, doesn’t read music mags or write for them .
All part of the marginalisation of music journalism I guess.
Well into the audiobook now , so here’s a few early observations. The book is read in two voices: Macca and the narrator.
The bloke who does Macca’s voice is not at all bad and after a while you believe it’s really him.
The narrator however is a different story. He speaks in a pseudo Andy Kershaw-style Lancashire accent which grates and at times is hard to understand, especially on words like “wife”,
Biggest revelation so far is that the Shea Stadium film was re-voiced (ie overdubbed) when the band got back to London – both vocals and instruments, apparently.
Macca also touches on the Lennon/spastic impersonation we discussed here recently and shrugs it off as “not very PC these days”.
Perhaps that’s where the newspapers picked up the story again recently? Someone read an advance copy of the book, maybe?
Excellent! Nice work, Mr H.
Interesting read – and the Afterword gets a mention too
” … defying the laws of the internet by remaining civilised!”
T-Shirt?
Fuck off.
Bit harsh. It’s only a t-shirt.
That was a great read, Gavin. Nicely done!
Thanks. I enjoyed that.

Loved it. I’m a big fan of Paul’s writing. Thank you!
Thanks for that.
Paul Du Noyer was always my favourite contributor to Q and (The) Word.

Nice howling Wolf record.

He still recognises good music when he sees it.

Great read Gavin, a timely reminder of the roots of The Afterword!
Today I downloaded the Audiobook version of Paul’s book.
Paid for it too!
SPOILER ALERT!

I presumed it would Paul Du Noyer reading it himself. A sample here – I’m still trying to figure out quite what accent is!

Definitely not Paul d. It says who it is at the beginning but I’m loath to go back because it’s a bugger finding your place again on an audiobook
Thanks that’s a great read. I really like Paul du Noyer, have his books on Liverpool and London music.
I just checked on the Audible site and the readers are: Angus King, Scot Williams, Penelope Rawlins.
But I don’t know the names
I should have said: I don’t recognise the names.
If you’re interested to hear Paul chatting about his charity shop tunes
