mentioning Bees Make Honey reminded me of the pub rock scene in the seventies.
Alas not living in London I never got to see many of the bands mentioned in the NME or Sounds just a couple at a few festivals etc. The pub names read like a mythical country populated by the people in the know.
Although we had a pub scene in Leeds we didn’t get to see those bands listed.
Did you see any of those bands in their natural environment ?
Here’s Ducks Deluxe ,one of the few bands I saw..

New Pub Rock compilation from Cherry Red has been on near constant play for the last couple of weeks. It may not be treading new musical ground, but is a mighty fine noise
Never seen any of them as their heyday was a good few years before I was allowed in a pub.
Pub Rock inn the 90s (or Rock music played in pubs) was basically a group of mates from the office playing cover versions.

Never saw any of them in their natural habitat (being about 250 miles north of that habitat), but most of them popped up on the Whistle Test on frequent occasions.

Re; The title of the O.P. Does It reference a remix of a Splodgenessabounds single?

The Extended Lock-In mix. The revisd B-Side was titled “Shall We Have A Kebab Or A Curry On The Way Home”
(all done with the same three chord riff)

Of course, I have close connections with the band. Used to play snooker at the snooker hall owned by the bassist. It was Civics in the lower sixth officially.

As to the post, I was a tad late to the first flower of pub rock, arriving in London late 1975, as another tide was a’flowing. But visited the fabled Hope and Anchor a few times, and the Nashville Rooms. The Hope music room was a pretty gritty basement bar, I seem to recall. Being drunk was certainly part of the experience. Hammy Odeon was probably where I saw most music, later latching on to Dingwalls and The Venue, by Victoria. Only made the Marquee once.
