Terrific read Niall, as ever. When’s the book due?
Thanks. Had the first sniff from a publisher this week so, we’ll see. Fingers crossed.
Hurrah!
A few Christmas presents sorted if that comes off 😉
Best of luck … we wait with bated breath for developments
Blimey, never knew 87.43% of that.
Once again, great read
Thanks.
Marvellous, as per. I’d forgotten all about that Phil Thornalley version of When Love Breaks Down… *hunts down 7″ single box*
Me too. Thanks.
Great stuff, Niall. I spent a lot of time in Nomis in the early 90s, overseeing various band/artiste rehearsals for TV shows, and it was indeed a great place. AND I grew up very near Witton Gilbert (and thus not far from Langley Park, too) so this was an especially cracking read for me. Keep up the good work, fella!
Thanks.
Another great piece. It wasn’t until the end that I realised I went there once when Sanctuary owned it around 2006. I only went into the offices but I remember security being quite heavy, presumably because of the studios.
Interesting. I know so many bands used it as the ‘pre-tour’ rehearsal spot. Andy Powell of Wishbone Ash says it was his favourite place because the catering was so good and because of who you’d bump into.
Steve McQueen is very possibly perfect. The Thomas Dolby autobiography is a good read and is very good in the Prefab work.
Another excellent read Niall. You should take a great deal of pride of the pleasure these pieces give people.
Thanks, @Leedsboy. That satisfaction is why I do it.
A great read, and I found out a lot about the making of Steve McQueen.
I bow to no man in my love for Paddy’s work, and I usually say that ‘Jordan’ is my favourite of their albums, but SM is one of those records, like Ziggy Stardust, or Dark Side of the Moon, where I know it so well that it almost gets taken for granted. Like those others, it’s not usually the first one I reach for, but then when I do play it, I realise just how great it really is.
Thanks Niall.
Your welcome, thanks @garyt.
It’s a triumph, isn’t it?
Splendid read yet again @niallb.
Just to prove I’ve read it.
I think you mean “say you” not “to say”
Ta.
Another one with the curse of the property developers.
If you have read SNB’s excellent Ta-Ra-Ra- Boom-Dee- Ay, he claims he got the Yardbirds the highest royalty rate in the business (higher than The Beatles) just because he didn’t know how much to ask for and guessed.
Excellent!
