Ray Padgett had been going through the 74 tour show by show. He has brought in a Band expert to talk about where the Band were at for this tour. It’s harsh reading.
Hope you can access it via tis link.

Great read, thanks
@Dai was that while munching a bowl of chips just out of your air fryer?
Eating chili actually, didn’t use the AF
Most excellent read. Thanks, Junior
Interesting stuff. Bought that album on release, knowing then little about the Band, leaving it a fan more of them than Bob, who was then at his hootiiest. They don’t sound like a band of car crashes and two drivers.
Wasn’t my impression either. And Northern Lights Southern Cross is a much better album than she gives credit.
Great write up, JW and thanks for sharing
Am sure I’m not the only AWer who saw the Band along with Jesse Colin Young, Joni Mitchell and Tom’s Scott’s LA Express and CSN&Y at Wembley in Sept 1974.
While I remember CSN&Y and Joni pretty vividly, have little memory of the Bands set. A bit sad really as it was the only time I ever got to see them live.
CSN&Y’s set was recorded and filmed for a live album which was apparently scrapped due to too much cocaine being consumed on the day. Full set is on YT for anyone who’s interested.
Not sure if it’s still there or I dreamed it, but pretty sure YT also had footage of the Band’s set from Wembley that day, too.
It was indeed and here it is
Wonder why there is no footage of Joni
And here is the full CSN&Y set – well worth watching Neil’s solo numbers as he was at his absolute peak around then
I too was there, I’ve tried to watch the film of the Band before but had to give up as the quality of it was terrible.
Me too. Never bothered with the footage. Perhaps I’ll give it a look sometime or other.
Isn’t it fookin loud enough?
