Aaaah! Sweet memories. Don’t underplay your contribution to that list, sal, with your collating skills!
9 out of top ten English
Think most of em were like that .
I wonder why it is that “Kind Of Blue” (a great album) regularly muscles its way into “rock” lists but no other jazz album does. This is not a criticism, I’m just interested . . . . if listeners like KOB enough to vote it number 27 why isn’t, say, The Train and The River by The Jimmy Giuffre Trio *, which has a similar mood, also popular?
* insert your favourite jazz album here
coz most people have never heard of them.
I keep looking at that entry for ABC and shake my head.
ABC might well have been me. It’s my number one album of all time. Yes.
I’d agree with that, it should be much further up the list 🙂
Izzit a list ye’s want!?
1. King Crimson ~ Larks’ Tongues in Aspic
2. Michael Nyman Band ~ Drowning by Numbers
3. The Yes ~ The Yes Album
4. Genesis ~ Live
5. Megadeth ~ so far, so good.. So What!?
The scary thing is that I own 85 of those 100 albums (and 47 of the top 50). Does that make me a man of impeccable taste or just part of the norm……
I think it’s just the crowd sourcing effect, where the ones that rise to the top are the most common ones, not necessarily the most loved. I’d say my music tastes aren’t that in tune with most of the AW, but I still have 47 of them (maybe 48, I honestly can’t remember if I still own OK Computer or not, and I’m not going upstairs to check)
Good point, @kid-dynamite – When I have time I will seek out the list of submitted number 1 albums. I think there was more variance and interest there.
Seems like I have time, 5 years on…

Well, my number one hasn’t changed. Wonder how many others have the same toppermost of the poppermost
Yup, me too
I make it 2 from the 21st century there…I say this with affection, you bunch of old hippies.
Speaking as an “old hippy” I mainly remember my amazement that so many of us actually sat down and compiled a list of our favourite albums. 100 of them. WHAT WERE WE THINKING !!??
What, no Levellers? Pah. I’m outta here. *
* only kidding
There was I thinking we were cutting edge hipsters….it`s all a bit Q or Mojo innit?
I was surprised by the strong showing of John Martyn, Nick Drake & Joni Mitchell, especially Hejira.
Hejira, waheeeey! *wink wink nudge*
You’ve tried it out, haven’t you?
Still got original, and updated version
(Yes, being a proper nerd, I am keeping it up to date (and keeping a record of those added and removed).
The Top 10 however remains largely unmoved:
1. Who – Quadrophenia
2. Pink Floyd – The Wall
3. Sex Pistols – Never Mind The Bollocks
4. Stiff Little Fingers – Inflamable Material
5. Beatles – Abbey Road
6. Henry Priestman – The Chronicles Of Modern Life
7. Clash – Give ‘Em Enough Rope
8. Jam – Setting Sons
9. Jam – All Mod Cons
10. Damned – Machine Gun Ettiquette
(Damned is the only top position change, replacing Kinks – Village Green Preservation Society)
You want us to say that you are not really a nerd.
We can’t.
We ought to do it again sometime soon (was the last time at the end of 2012?)
I’m currently listening to Pussy Galore’s “Dial M for Motherfucker”. I can confidently predict it’s not going to make my all time top 100 any time soon…
39? Good, cos even those aren’t necessarily favourites.
Has anyone bought the new NME 2015 best 500 songs and albums “ever”. £5.99 and I only had £2 pocket money last week?
Give us more Salwarpe!
How about a poll of top 100 songs, @baron-harkonnen, @tiggerlion?
To make it easy, it could be just a straight forward list with no ranking – easy enough to pull ff iTunes, for example.
I don’t know. I think half the fun is ranking them!
