I am a bit surprised that no one has picked up on the Abbey Road reissue! Hopefully that means that like me you can’t get too excited about even more outtakes that you will never want to hear more than once!
It seems that even Sir Bongo Starr doesn’t wish to hear them either…..
Ringo Starr Says There Will Indeed Be a Box Set Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of ‘Abbey Road’

Ringo doesn’t want to hear them, just re-record them for his next highly anticipated solo adventure.
Since I got the WA box I’ve played the outtakes more than the original album, which is one of the reasons my wife loves me.
Not exactly missed here…
I’m increasingly miffed there isn’t going to be a proper remix of Old Brown Shoe, just as there wasn’t for the Revolution B side. Both tracks are, shall we say, eccentric in stereo.
Definitely – there are some singles shaped gaps in the reissue programme. It annoys me a little that the Fabs story has become all about the albums whereas in reality the singles were just as important, if not more so, especially in the early years.
There’s a (vinyl) singles box set coming too. Don’t know if they are remixed. The remixes so far have not been universally loved anyway. More a novelty than a definitive version. Of course all the singles were remastered in 2009 and the 1+ audio/video set had 5.1 versions of most of the singles.
I’m enjoying the remixes immensely. The sound is so much better and I can hear things I couldn’t before. The only real error has been centralising Paul’s vocal on A Day In The Life but both Revolution and Old a Brown Shoe are crying out for a modern centralisation. If Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane were remixed for Sgt Pepper, why not these?
Maybe they are not considered part of the main AR sessions. Ballad of J and Y certainly wasn’t as only 2 Beatles were around. Was Hey Jude remixed?
There will be Let it Be stuff next year and there is considerable overlap with Abbey Road.
Also I don’t know if they sound better. They sound different and you hear things maybe you didn’t hear before, but part of that is you heard them only one way for the 50 preceding years.
The Sgt. Pepper stereo remixes (and the 5:1) are terrific, but the WA, whilst I’m pleased they did them, are arguably less vital. The earlier albums are the ones that would benefit most.
Agree
Nope. Hey Jude was not remixed.
The Giles Martin mixes (stereo and 5.1) of most of the singles tracks are on the 3-disc reissue of the “1+” album – including “Hey Jude” and “Revolution”.
Oooh. Thanks.
Except Old Brown Shoe & Revolution were B sides.
The 3-disc version has a couple of B-sides (that’s why I mentioned “Revolution”, see?)
Yes. Sorry. I’m a bit rushed and over tired.
Is it me or does this quote actually confirm nothing other than he likes the reissues because the drums are mixed better?
