And so it goes, the vainglorious ask if anyone is Shroppy bound soon, for the w/e leading up to the bank holiday. It’s the Shrewsbury Folk Festival, dont’cha know. Less adventurous line up than Cambo, but it’s a good venue and has a nice vibe. I’m expecting to meet up with the good @thecheshirecat , it being one of his singing and colliding weekends of merit. (Colliding? English for gracing a ceilidh)
Joachim Cooder looks a wild card, and I look forward to Hanging Stars, amongst the standard folkier fare, a broad brush encompassing Oysterband, Blue Rose Code, Leveret and Talisk.
Anyone else coming?

Shroppy? Shrewsbo?
Jesus Christ man what’s with these alternative place names?
Interesting re Blue Rose Code – when I saw them at Black Deer last year they were more rock/upbeat than when I had seen them at kitchen Garden. Do they change their genre depending on what festival they are playing?
Ross Wilson (aka BRC) seems indeed a changed man. I chatted with him, go me, after his incandescent gig at Cambridge and asked where the angsty introspection of old had gone. He shrugged, grinned and said he’s just happy these days.
I’ve done sound for BRC three or four times, each completely different. Ross really is a lovely fella.
I’m going to see them in September.
I just realised, I’ve never seen them as a punter, always behind the desk. If the sound is crap I can at least do something about it.
not going, but seeing quite a few of these acts at Beautiful Days the weekend before!
I definitely recommend Elephant Sessions on the Sunday night, great fun live.
Yup: I remember you gave me the heads up for them 5 or so years ago. Seen em twice, the last being (also) at Cambridge last month. Brilliant band, the latest album an especial corker.
I couldn’t get clearance for Beautiful Days, so on my wish list, as is Black Deer, for next year.
But is it pronounced Shrews-Boe or Shroes-Boe?
Arf!
Yes, of course, I will be present and correct. I’m helping set the site up again this year, which I like for the fact that I’ve already had three days on site to absorb the anticipation. That said, I’m still looking at beautiful Devon hills in Sidmouth at the moment, and I’m squeezing in Dartmoor before returning home.
The dance line up at Shrewsbury is again excellent. For many, their surprise act will be Dreamers Circus. Not me. I already know how good they are. Truly one of my favourite gigs ever a few years ago at Folk at the Hall.
Back and here’s my thoughts.
Oddly there is a picture of someone we know well included, (if not the one he entitled “the best band in the land and some blerk”)
