So, having hoovered* out the tent, it’s time to load up the back pack and head off to Cherry Hinton park again, a week and a day tomorrow, for, Cambo, as nobody calls it. A very good line up indeed, methinks, as well as, spit, the Proclaimers. Anyone in for a wassail?
*not really; it’s still in the car boot….

And I used the effin’ box, too, grrrrrrr
“Hoovered out the tent” – is that a euphemism?
I am considering buying a Thursday evening ticket just to see Ibibio Sound Machine. Weather and inertia currently stalling my purchase.
Let me know if you do; I’ll need some dull to temper the excitement elsewhere!
Of the acts on the New Routes Cambridge Junction stage, local Max Bianco might be worth seeing if what’s on the main stage isn’t to your taste.
Cambo?
What’s up, Oggo? Have you gone all Australian on us?
In South Wales and in Liverpool they’ve been known to do that too.
Out here in the wilds of South Cambs, we just call it “Town”.
Good to see you are still here!
I am disappoint.

It was good of Trevelyan to gift the village to the N.T. considering his ancestors robbed the local population and also had them build it.
Enjoy err, Cambo retro it seems the type of festival that I could enjoy despite tinnitus.
Having been to Cambridge and Black Deer I have to say Black Deer wins the vote for me.
Who said we’re voting.
c’mon. This is the Afterword. Of course, we’re voting.
Interesting idea….. Favourite festival, which year and why. I’ll get back to you. But possibly the year Guilfest spent at Loseley Farm (of the ice cream fame). Which makes it 1995. 3000 people, Chumbawamba, Oysterband, Steeleye Span the lights I still remember as being high. Possibly Ian Dury & the Blockheads, tho’ I may be muddling that with Bracknell the year after.
Paging @jorrox ……. Usual pitch, usual flags?
No, After 35 years, I’m out.
Far too much new stuff for my tastes. They closed the Club Tent. And introduced a VIP ticket. That was the final straw.
I’m doing Cropredy this year. The heritage stuff is more my thing.
I’ll miss a morning beer at your tent. Funnily enough it is the relentless heritage act performances of Cropredy that has me not going back there.
And they’ve put a lot of noses out of joint in doing so. And they’re still punting unsold tickets with a couple of days to go.
Mind you, they lost a lot of money when the online ticket company went bust a few years back.
I know Sidmouth Folk Festival seem to be struggling, and the prices for the main concerts have shot up (which aren’t included in the main ticket….I don’t think…their ticketing is so complicated). There was talk a couple of weeks ago that they would have to scale back the Bulverton events at the last minute, which caused an outcry.
I know from a source that the tickets have been slow, and they are blaming the cost of living squeeze.
Frankly, I think they need to have a big think before next year about the number of events – 700 odd around the town! – as well as the ticketing, and the website is a nightmare to negotiate.
I’ve had a look at Sidmouth, it seems the main concerts are included in All In One Week ticket (I’ve also seen the price).

We go to Cropredy whoever is on as it’s just a wonderful few days. I’m a heritage act so I fit right in.
Just been sent the day splits, delighted to see the Saturday afternoon services of Brian McNeill are being preserved, with his long set where he presents, showcases and plays with many other performers, in an ad hoc floor sessions spot. Can be remarkable, as the unexpected come together and ‘jam’. Tho, as unplugged and he a Scot, more of a ‘jeely’.
Thanks for introducing me (on Facebook) to this Swedish duo that you just saw at Cambo.
Excellent!
We must look out for them @DuCo01.
Obligatory review, long after the page has gone cold,
https://atthebarrier.com/2023/08/01/cambridge-folk-festival-2023-live-review/
Man, I don’t know how you do it! I’m needing a nap just reading that.
I’ve lost my musical sponge. Or it’s full. I was happier at Cropy that I’ve been at Cambo for years. My daughter has taken on my job of taking new folk to CFF. It’s hers now. I won’t be back.
An excellent review of what was obviously a stupendous festival. Lots of new names to explore.
Local radio covered the event rather extensively.
105 is the local community (volunteer) radio station broadcast from a coathanger on a lamp post. I’m 10 miles out and can’t get it. Thank goodness for online.
Not so long ago, it used to be on BBC Radio 2 and BBC 4. How times have changed.
I blame Nadine Dorries
It might be me to blame. No sooner had I been on her Radio Cambridgeshire evening show, Sue Marchant was “offered” early retirement and the studio has since closed down.
I was then on 105 on my pal Chris’ round-table show to review the fortnight’s new releases. Within a fortnight, the studio was in placed into lockdown and his show dropped.
Yoiks! Fentonsteve, Destroyer of the Airwaves!
A new Marvel character…
“Unleash the power of Dullness!”
Within seconds, everyone in Metropolis was yawning…
The question is, @fitterstoke: which mighty hero from the ACU (Afterword Comics Universe) would dare to oppose him?
Tiggerlion the Titanic, Fearless Fatima, SuperLocust, The Mighty Hubert, Lodestone the Spectacular, the Sensational Saucecraft….??
Here’s a very handy playlist for all of us who didn’t make it to Cambo this year.
@Kaisfatdad – how do you embed these Spotify links? I can’t seem to make them work for me…thanks in advance
Delighted to help you, @fitterstoke.
Go to the page for the playlist you have made which should look something like this.
To the right of the green circle with the arrow you will see: Enhance, A downward arrow, a head, and then three dots.
Left click on the dots and scroll down until the very end where you well see the word Share. Click on that and then choose Copy link to playlist.
You then just go to the mail, AW comment or whatever and paste.
Hope it works!
Good luck! Send me a playlist and we can see if it works.
Many thanks! I’ll send one as a test, as you suggest, @Kaisfatdad
Edited to add: that option isn’t there!! Might it be because I don’t have the “paid” version?
I can invite you to collaborate, on a link which expires after 7 days…very odd.
Edited AGAIN to add: found it!
Great review.
I’m greatly enjoying that Cambo Playlist. One track that really caught my attention was a wonderfully transcendent instrumental. Who could be playing this angelic music?
It was my old faves, Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita: a duo where Senegalese kora meets Welsh harp.
They have been playing together for ten years now. And they have not lost the magic.

@kaisfatdad : She now plays with a South American combo, and did, over the w/e. Sadly I could only catch a fleeting a glimpse, so jam packed was the roster elsewhere. Looked good. Cimmaròn, from Colombia.
I understand. The clashes must be dreadful at Cambo.
Catrin are from Colombia and have been playing with Cimarron since 2007.
This album is from 2009.
Here’s a little background.

Cimarron are from Colombia and have been playing with Catrin since 2007.
