When they attempted to record Now and Then in 1995 for the Anthology project, George Harrison said it was “rubbish”. I’ve heard a few versions on YouTube and I think George may have been a bit harsh. On the demo tape John Lennon had written “For Paul” perhaps that’s what pissed George off.
As anyone who’s ever read Albert Goldman’s otherwise execrable Many Lives of John Lennon will know, J and Y were tickled to discover that in addition to being the name of J’s erstwhile bandmate, Paul was also the name of the the “garbage extraction engineer” at the Dakota Apartments
Ok. There is a demo tape now super cleaned up and Paul can write a few verses for. Ringo is still available. What about George’s guitar? He refused to contribute a note. Is AI going to ‘create’ a guitar solo?
“All the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order” is a pretty neat summary of the present state of A.I.’s evolution.
The bit before it decides to kill us all.
Sorry, that was a bit strong.
What I meant to say was before it starts killing all your children..
I’m with daff … “Yawn” … too true, 2023 is jaw-droppingly shite.
Hey! But now we have a Beatles’ record! Triffic. Let’s hope Apple contrive to find a way to market it to everyone, absolutely not a given in 2023. Don’t hide it away (Rolling Stones No. 2, Nick Drake’s BBC session, Beatles’ Xmas Flexis), let people buy it. Can’t be too difficult.
Your post raises an interesting side question, Baron. Has anyone here fallen asleep mid-scroll? I’ve nodded off reading, watching telly, in mid-conversation and last week succumbed at the cinema while Hans Zimmer was making enough noise to raise the dead, but I don’t think I’ve drifted while scrolling. Yet..
Macca doesn’t need the money, doesn’t need the publicity. If he fancies trying it, why not?
It’s a new technology, and he is interested in that (or at least was). Even if it is rubbish it is not going to ruin the Beatles legacy, is it? It’s also not going to win over the doubters, I am sure.
Slight tangent: my mother-in-law’s personality was so strong that even though she died 5 years ago you could still have a “conversation” with her in your head about the matters of the day – we know what she would say. I wonder if, after all they did together, John (and even George) is like that for Paul – there is a “John” in his head that he is in constant conversation with, and this is a chance to collaborate one last time?
It must feel like unfinished business, getting this one done. I’m looking forward to it. I still really liked the two Anthology singles. The updated mixes on the One dvd are worth a listen for anyone who hasn’t heard them.

“Yawn”
I’ve never heard it before. Yeah, I’ll give it a listen and might even buy it. What can I say? It’s the Beatles (kind of) so I’m curious.
I quite liked Free as a Bird and Real Love, to a point.
Thank God that rumour that it was called “Now Then” – and was about a now-deceased R1 DJ – has turned out not to be true.
Arf!

They can get Eric in.
See you round the clubs
👏👏
Eric?

I think Geogre is on the original attempt at the song, but it doesn’t really matter – plenty of Beatle records don’t have all four of them on it.
This bit of news re: N & T is a prelude for another Anthology where it will probably be released.
What form Anthology will take I’m not sure. Maybe all new unreleased content, remastered old content, Blu-ray Editions.
Maybe Macca has got Peter Jackson* to use the technology he used for Get Back on N & T.
Edit: *I’ve just read the BBC article and see that this has been mentioned.

Market it as a vinyl only offering as a 12. inch 45 rpm one sided single.
The flip side is a bespoke picture of you photoshopped next to Macca.
Might be on to something here.
Once in marketing you never leave!
Why not a B side with Carnival of Light, the Fab Four’s online equivalent of the Nazis in Godwin’s Law
Carnival ofLight could be played underneath said picture I guess.
Not sure looking at myself spinning around at 45rpm for 14minutes would be good use of my time though.
All theses ‘yawners’ 🥱, yet they take the time to scroll down threads the subject of which makes them 🥱

I agree, Baron. It’s the height of bad manners.
Nice tune and chords. It’ll sound beautiful once Paul’s done his bit. George was wrong, it’s not rubbish at all
