In the recent past Nottingham had one of the highest Covid infection rates in the country.
After lockdown 2 it went into Tier 3. Why then were they allowed to have a Christmas Market that was almost unsupervised and closed down almost as soon as it was opened?
The tier levels arguably don’t make any sense but[ allowing a Christmas market in that environment makes even less sense.
Money doesn’t talk, it says, “Fucking hell, I can’t stop coughing”
I think it’s a case of ‘logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead’.
I suppose that means BoJo is the White Knight !
Well although not talking backwards he does make no sense.
ppatel is the red queen.
So where is Gryphon Three, so we can despatch her forthwith?
Seems like my hometown (in Blaenau Gwent) is now no. 1 in the country for infections. We should be so proud.
That ‘fire break’ was a complete waste of time clearly.
They’re at it again

I know someone who lives in Lace Street (or did about 25 years ago). I don’t think it would be possible to get 150 people into his house. My best man lived at the junction with Beeston Road, opposite the shops.
They have to get very close together, I’ve found.
I am speechless. What with the Robin Hood Energy farce and PIR (£38m lost apparently) and a damning Govt report coming out any day, as well as the Broadnarsh debacle, it seems Nottingham City Council only opens its mouth lately to change feet.
How on earth anyone thought this was a good idea is beyond my feeble comprehension.
Bring back Selectadisc.
*goes into reverie, drooling slightly*
Oh god. I went to visit my Best Man for long weekend, including brunch in a pub somewhere near the castle. I found myself mid-afternoon tipsy in Selectadisc. I don’t think I’ve ever spent so much on music in one go.
Yes I dread to think how much I spent in there over the years. A fortune I suspect but still not enough.
I found a Selectadisc carrier bag recently. I’m tempted to frame it.
Yes, a sad loss, and I also spent a good proportion of paper round money in there. At least it’ll be immortalised (The London one anyway) on the cover of WTSMG?
I dug out some old bags the other month, but I’m blowed if I can find how to post a picture in a comment? Please don’t say you have to do it via imgur or something?
Think I was “on mute” for a while there…
Note my toes creeping into the lower shot. Good to work with pros, eh?
Arcade was great too, all the hip-hop was in the suitably dank basement.
The guy who ran Arcade was a top top bloke.
I still occasionally see him at round the city.
Fopp on Queen street was fantastic then they moved it to Broadmarsh shopping centre and completely ruined it.
Havent been to Rough Trade in Nottingham yet – any good?
Yes, I never quite worked out why Fopp moved to the Broadmarsh. Cheaper rent I assume but there must have been a significant drop in footfall.
Rough Trade is OK although they do split the genres more than is necessary by also splitting them by parts of the world. So you’ll have, for example, rock and pop from the UK in one section, North America in another, and Europe another.
They did have some decent gigs upstairs though. I saw a great 40 minute set by British Sea Power at the time of the release of their last album.
It’s opposite the Broadway cinema where I am a member, so I tended to pop in when I was going there, not that I’ve been in either since before March. Here’s to normality returning fairly soon.
I don’t understand why Rough Trade can’t file everything in their shop – I’ve only ever been in the Bristol one – alphabetically. You have to know the era and nationality of the artist in there to find them. You didn’t wanna do that; A to Z, with rock, pop, jazz all together. Poppy Ackroyd at one end, ZZ Top at the other. Separate classical section if you sell classical.
At one time in Bristol, Fopp was at the bottom of Park Street, Rise at the top. Happy days.
Rough Trade is the only place I’ve ever been in that files music by country of origin. It’s baffling.
My local record shop in the early 70s (Bayes Recordium in King’s Lynn) had just 4 classifications of music – Pop, Easy Listening, Classical and Progressive.
At one time in Bristol, Relay was at the bottom of Park Street, Tony’s was half way up, Rayners was at the top and Revolver was just around the corner. Skint days.
What was the one on the underpass near The Galleries? Of course Our Price, Virgin (?) and HMV all in that area too.
If you’re outside the risk is minute. That’s why the market is open
People die of poverty too not to mention suicide so commerce and socialising is important
Was open. It was closed at lunchtime on the day it opened.
