Huzzah! Sky black with hats….my favourite Beatles podcast by a mile….

The latest one was excellent. Your research into how Anthology happened threw up a few things I was unaware of, just need a link for the Long and Winding Road doc 😉

Hooray! All I need now is an excuse to drive to work so I can listen to it (I suspect that the family Paws will not sanction the playing of this at home).

Hurrah! Will listen on my morning commute (from kitchen to dining room).

Great listen. Incidentally, I still have the VHS of “ The Compleat Beatles “.

I have a digital version which came from the laserdisc I think.

This looks utterly splendid. Going to dive in now – thank you Steve!

I really enjoyed that. I never knew there had been a rough cut of TLAWR. It sounds pretty strange for sure. Must look out for that footage of Dick James, John and Paul.
I also had a VHS of The Compleat Beatles, with gravelly narration and I think I watched it so much as a teen I could probably quote verbatim from it at length. You reminded me what a strong collection of interviews it has, sadly most of whom are no longer around, especially the Liverpool/Hamburg years. And Marianne Faithfull clearly still in the grip of some profound emotions.
“How long are we gonna last? Well, I can’t say, y’know. You can be big- headed and say, we’ll be around for years, but then you think, we’ll be lucky if we last six months”
Thanks again Steve, that was a brilliant episode!

But what does “Live on tape” mean? @Steven-C No edits?

Top podcast. What did I actually know about The Beatles…fuck all, after listening to these 😊

Thank you, guys.
Welcome back. You’ve been missed.

The early 1968 episode is absolutely terrific! To home in on a such a tiny amount of time and reveal so much is genius.

Just been travelling for work this week and downloaded some episodes after my interest was piqued reading about it here. I have tried numerous Beatle podcasts before and stuck with none of them.
I listened to nothing else all week and have to say that this is one of the best music podcasts I’ve heard. Great content, great production and great chemistry between the hosts. I’m now, however, in that annoying position of having run out of episodes after my initial glut.
Mousey says
Splendid!

Love the “Philip Norman Prize”! Fantastic podcasts, have been binging greedily over the past week. I don’t know if you have seen the Vivek Tiwari graphic novel about Brian Epstein btw? Totally agree a proper in-depth biog of Brian is much needed but at this stage, pretty much everyone who was close to him is no longer around, apart from Peter Brown, Paul, Ringo and they’re unlikely to talk
dai says
Enjoyed the books episode.
Epstein’s (ghostwritten by Derek Taylor?) autobiography not mentioned, but probably not too many revelations (I haven’t read it).
Lewisohn will effectively produce a book about him within the much bigger book(s), there was plenty of Brian detail in the first book.
* And Derek Taylor’s As Time Goes By is an excellent book, not sure if you mentioned it first time round.

Just finished the Pepper pods. Great work as always. I think Only A Northern Song is missing from the 2017 box because it was remixed for the Yellow Submarine Songtrack. Try as I might, I can’t find a place for it on Sgt Pepper itself.
