Seems that not content with tampering with Elvis and Roy Orbison the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra are now ruining some of the Beach Boys legacy! Who the hell buys this rubbish?!?!?
Brian Wilson is apparently delighted with it.

At least in this day and age it’s very easy to avoid hearing it! I listened to the first Elvis one for interest and have avoided hearing it, or any of the others since. I guess someone must like this sort of thing but there’s so much access to fresh new music now that it completely baffles me why people take this route.

Haven’t heard a single note of the other two, and with any luck I won’t hear a note of this one either.
The big orchestras take on these projects for the money, which then gets used to pay for other projects that they couldn’t otherwise afford to do. They used to have lucrative sponsorship deals from big tobacco and alcohol. Now they don’t. Other sponsors (banks, insurance companies) are less generous these days.

If Brian Wilson likes it I’ll have to disagree with him on this.

He’s wrong about candy bars too. Why would anybody eat the wrapper instead of the bar?

Another example of The Petrol Station CD.
Destined to languish in the glove compartments of people who don’t really like music very much.
When the car eventually goes to the crusher, this CD may well go with it.

Can’t name one music catalogue improved by the exercise.

Wouldn’t have thought Brian had any say or input. AFAIK it’s Mike Love who owns the name and rights for the Beach Boys catalogue, and this is exactly the sort of exploitative ‘project’ he has been involved in over the last 20-odd years.
