But surely that’s unfair, because he delivers to the paying audience the full gamut of emotions from A-B? Well, A, certainly; he definitely brings his A-game to this whole ‘acting’ lark.
Yes he was in Rumblefish, and yes he was in Birdy, and yes apparently he was in Leaving Las Vegas (though I was unable to see anybody or anything other than Elizabeth Shue).
But Captain Corelli’s Mandolin? He got PAID for that? And everything after?
I liked him in Family Man. There, I said it. Most accurate onscreen depiction of a world I used to know quite well too (corporate finance). Add in Téa Leoni and that’s one happy Bartleby.
I enjoyed “Lord Of War”. He never seemed to do much work in the movie but he portrayed the part of an absolutely amoral person pretty convincingly and with some wit too.
Having just watched Pay the Ghost, a load of old twaddle that thoroughly entertained. Only remotely believable through his character being even less believable than the plot. Imagine what it would be like, as a child, to have Dave Vanian’s dad as your dad? No wonder you would let the crone steal you at Halloween.
This is very sweary, by the way!!!
NOT THE BEES! NOT THE BEEEEEEES!
Ace, I loved that. Thanks for posting.
Either the best or worst acting ever
‘Whis-keyyyy!”

Good point. I’m undecided, which is a tantalising place to be.
The Gary Cooper of his generation.
I like him, actually. Value for money.
Damn good actor when he can be bothered. Unfortunately, in recent years he has tended to phone it in and take the very large cheque.
Coppoload of that Hollywood nepotism!

Beats working, I suppose.
