He’s a daft old BEGH.
Curtis Stigers guests. I’m in.
(Hey dai old bean – I’m listening to the Neil/Crazy Horse “Early Daze” album. It’s a “great album”!)
Need to pick that up. Unfortunately just announced that the Canadian tour is off
I shall waste no time listening to it
Looking forward to. Cranking up NYA and blasting out Neil’s youthful scrrechings
It’s downright refreshing, is what it is.
I’ve bought it on one of those modern compact disc doohickeys despite Warner Reprise asking 20 of His Majesty’s quids for it. Seems a trifle excessive for 40 minutes of music that’s 50 years old. Rather good though.
It’s bloody lovely, is what it is.
As Neil has a horrible habit of the standalone discs Neil puts out ending up on future Archives sets, I’ve taken the sensible precaution of paying the US$20 annual. sub for NYA.com.
Wonder how it’ll be before my resolve cracks. Given my love of all things Neil, not, I suspect, very long
I was amazed at the price tag, although I fancy CD prices have gone up recently. They also seem to generally less available with back catalogue disappearing for a lot of artists, so the bargains seem to be fewer now.
So, if you can actually find a CD now, it’s a £20 job?
Maybe that explains the vinlys ‘revival’, cheap at double the price.
Meanwhile, I’m having the usual conversation about no CDs anywhere to buy with a guy in the chazzer the other day, and we both walk out of the place with a £1 CD to our name. I haven’t stopped playing my purchase, and I don’t think either of us recognised the irony at the time.
Chazzers are still worth a look if you can stand flipping through all the usual suspects, and I picked some Manics recently for £1 a pop, but it’s when you want something specific it seems to be harder now. We saw Albert Lee last week and there is very little available online, and there isn’t much on Spotify either.
“ The ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ hitmaker has revealed the record contains just a “small percentage” of the unreleased material he has in his archive that he plans to release….”
You could hope for something of the quality of Dylan’s Bootleg Series but I suspect his hours of tapes really arent much chop. Too feckin’ lazy.
Speaking of chop, I predict stinker of the album will be Choppin’ Wood
And I’m caught one more time
Up on Cypress Avenue
I’m carrying my axe
Got my chainsaw too
And I’m fixin’ on that cypress
Not a thing that you can do
No there is tons of good stuff out there if you know where to look
Well the instrumentals thing was nothing to write home about and this looks a bit suss. Live shows sure but happy to be enlightened about unreleased studio stuff.
Van has been better served by the bootleggers than himself or a succession of labels. And then there’s the entire album from ’75 that nobody’s ever seen or heard.
Please tell me VTM doesn’t have a Sycamore Gap in the can?
Dere wus a tree in old Albion planted long ago
By the mystic Knights of Arthur all dem years ago
But the record company bastards cut it down
In its prime an’ it grows no more in the Sycamore Gap
Dey took an axe to the Holy Tree
That grew for you and me Sweet Pea
Got me big boy’s pants on
In the rain, in the rain
Down by the abattoir at me Nan’s place
And the paper shop where I buy me fags
An’ the Exchange and Mart
I-Spy Rosicrucians
The feckin’ bastards cut me tree down
Where I carved the sacred heart (sacred heart)
Ooh ooh Sweet Pea, Sweet Pea
My big boy’s pants, big boy’s pants [to fade]
They’ve released Choppin’ Wood. It’s an OK song, orginally on a decent album, but here is given a sort of swing jazz treatment which absolutely nobody needs to hear.
Track 1. ‘Ain’t Gonna Moan No More’.
Oh, come come Mr Morrison…”I don’t believe you – you’re a LIAR!”.
I rather enjoyed his rock and roll covers album. Great fun. This one has Joss Stone on it though. So I shall probably stay well clear.
You would stay well clear of Joss Stone?
I would be right round her house if I was invited.
I’ll warn her.
after the kidnap and murder plot in 2011, pretty sure she will see you coming on the security cameras

@Black-Type
The Van Morrison oldies album I’m really looking forward is the added outtakes reissue of Van Morrison at the Movies
Outtake One
Van arrives at the local Avalon multiplex to see Monster and is chagrined to find it is a Japanese arthouse movie rather than the CGI-heavy shoot-em-up creature feature he expected
Outtake Two
Van is even more outraged when he finds out that the Tuesday afternoon OAPs discount does not apply on the remaining six days of the week
Outtake Three
Seeing a saliva-inducing ad for Fusco’s Ulster Fry Cornetto in the pre-main feature ads, Van is disgusted when the usherette informs him the cinema’s supply of said comestible is sold out
Outtake Four
Van loses it completely and is ejected from the cinema after a tiny old lady in the seat behind him politely asks him to remove his pork pie hat so she can better see the movie she has just paid £15 to watch .
“Fusco’s Ulster Fry Cornetto” – brilliant! 😀
He’s now got another one – Live at Orangefield – coming out.
Only new Van Morrison thread showing up on my feed is the duets one from a few weeks back that I’ve commented on here.
Just checked on your profile and the new thread isn’t showing up there either
Wonder if that’s something to do with the two thread titles being the same. Or maybe the ghost of Bert Berns has come back to get revenge for the contractual obligation album Van did all those years ago
Maybe you should have entitled the new thread “Another new VM album” or we could give Van his own section of the board
I went to “Track” to find it myself. I think that the board software adds numbers at the end so that the threads are indeed unique. Anyway you should have remembered, it wasn’t long ago and you told us you weren’t going to buy it 😉
Eh? I posted about the new old album on your old post about the other new old album because your new post about the new old album did not appear on the feed.
This would seem to be because the board software is incapable of distinguishing between the deathless prose in your new post about the new old album and your old post about the old new album.
Silly of me not to have remembered really.
Only way to get around this is to follow my lead and refrain from buying new old Van M albums until such time as he slows his release schedule and it is easier to tell which new album is in fact new and not the old new album that came out a few weeks before
Is there a new VM album? Why did nobody mention?
Cuh!
Do try to keep up, @fitterstoke!
Rather than a new album It’s a new album of old material (a new old album, if you will).
Problem is, @Dai who is supposed to be on top of this sort of stuff got the new old album mixed up with the old new old album that came out a few weeks before.
I was trying to be kind of ironic by announcing “New Van Morrison album” in the same way every week or two. I won’t bother any more as it confuses you too much.
But the other thread automatically then has a 2 on the end, this one doesn’t.

Sadly, the hip ironic look doesn’t really suit you, D.
Even if it did, your new new old album post didn’t show up on my -or indeed your – feed.
If it had I’d have refrained from adding an innocous post to the old new old album thread and saved us almost as much mental torment as sitting through another inessential collection of Van’s late-career huffing and puffing.
@Dai
Reason why I commented on it was that this very morning, Van Morrison’s people emailed my people* to inform me he had a new album out.
Look on the bright side, I could’ve stolen some of your thunder by starting a third “Van Morrison New Album” thread before he releases his new new new old album later this week
* i.e. me
Well, it made me laugh, Dai. So the effort was not entirely wasted.
We could probably run the same gag with a certain N. Young.
Is there a new NY album? Why did nobody mention?
Thank you @fentonsteve
Not sure what @jaygee is going on about. He seemed to be unaware of the live album when he had previously commented on the thread, was the only reason I guided him to the discussion about it. I don’t have it (yet), but it is probably more worthwhile picking that up than the other new one I think.
There’s a Friday in the week, Fitz, so the odds of a ‘new’ Shakey LP are about evens. I lost track in about 1993.
A new Shakey album? Continuing Adventures Behind The Green Door Of This Ole House
the label should be called: Vanity Morrison
Van Ordinaire
Van Overboard
White Van (the) Man
Van for the Money
Vanderbar
Brotherhood of Van.
Vantastic (both the label and your post)
Van’s Inhumanity to Van
One small step for Van. One giant leap…
Van Another Thing
Van Thing After Vanother
He could clean up if he added a range of home cleaning products
Van Thousand and Van
(cleans a big, big carpet for less than half-a-crown)
Vandemonium.
Oh f*uck there’s another one!
