VAN MORRISON IS EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE HIS BRAND NEW ALBUM,
SOMEBODY TRIED TO SELL ME A BRIDGE
Set for release through Orangefield Records, Somebody Tried To Sell Me A Bridge delivers a spirited, unfiltered blues experience from an artist whose connection to the genre runs deep. The album blends Morrison’s trademark grit and lyricism with the unmistakable emotional weight of classic blues, resulting in a collection that feels both timeless and fiercely alive. Available on CD and released on Friday 23rd January.
Somebody Tried To Sell Me A Bridge, marks a confident return to the sounds and traditions that shaped much of Morrison’s musical identity, paying homage to the legends who defined the blues genre with fresh interpretations of classics made famous by B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Leadbelly and more.
Morrison is joined by some of the most respected figures in modern blues, including Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, Elvin Bishop, and long-time musical collaborator John Allair, along with other long-standing collaborators, David Hayes, Bobby Ruggerio, “Friends Along The Way” associate Mitch Woods, Anthony Paule, leader of the Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra and the renowned Larry Vann on drums. Their combined contributions bring depth, character and authenticity to the record, each adding their own distinctive twist to Morrison’s vision.

That’s a very appetising opening track title Kidney Stew Blues
I hope the album is as good as the spiel describing it
Before I investigate, are you able to confirm there is no Chris Farlowe lurking in its grooves…….
Am I right in thinking it is all covers?
Well, he’s not mentioned. I think it’s all covers
Certainly some – probably most – are covers but ‘Social Climbing Scene’ and ‘Somebody Tried to Sell Me A Bridge’ sound like, ahem, classic grumpy Van songs. I notice this is released on his own Orangefield label so has the feel of a side project, or possibly even tracks from the vault.
I recall Van describing himself as A jazz musician and various musicians who’d played with him rebutting that. “ He’s a RnB player through and through”. So i think this could be good. His version of Sonny Boy’s Help Me on ITLTSN is great.
That said it is a covers album with so many of the usual suspects.
Thank god for streaming.
Sigh…it’ll sound exactly like all the other albums he’s released for the last 20 years.
This is as good a place as any for this. Some good stories.
That was great Twang. I loved the bit about session musos hiding in a song.
