That’s excellent but I don’t hear the Radiohead comparison at all- it reminds me more of his fellow Welshman John Cale. Speaking of John Cale – here is his latest thing with Kelly Lee Owens. I’d put these two tracks together – artists of the 60s generation who really have nothing left to prove really – and yet here they are both capable of making songs that sound relevant and interesting and enjoyable. The trick is they aren’t above trusting younger collaborators who respect them and also bring out the best in them. There’s a lesson in this I think.
I agree. I found Tom’s contribution sad compared to his past glories. it does nothing except lessen his legend, which he’s been doing for many years now. They got the wrong Tom. Have they never heard of Mr Waits?
I have nothing against spoken vocals though. Case in point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uFLQFylYLg
Edit:(Apparently Dave Alvin’s Highway 61 Revisited is not available)
The full albums all covers, the track list isn’t quite so left field (sadly)…
‘I Won’t Crumble With You If You Fall’ (Bernice Johnson Reagon)
‘The Windmills Of Your Mind’ (Michel Legrand/Alan & Marilyn Bergman)
‘Popstar’ (Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam)
‘No Hole In My Head’ (Malvina Reynolds)
‘Talking Reality Television Blues’ (Todd Snider)
‘I Won’t Lie’ (Michael Kiwanuka & Paul Butler)
‘This is the Sea’ (Michael Scott)
‘One More Cup Of Coffee’ (Bob Dylan)
‘Samson And Delilah’ (Tom Jones, Ethan Johns, Mark Woodward)
‘Mother Earth’ (Tony Jo White)
‘I’m Growing Old’ (Bobby Cole)
‘Lazarus Man’ (Terry Callier)
One of the best voices ever and he does a “talking” blues???

Just heard that on the radio and thought, I rather like that.
The accent is like John Cale (naturally) but the band do sound like Radiohead to me.
Not available here. What’s it called?
‘Talking Reality Television Blues’.
or, possibly, ‘I Am Furious, Orange’.
Who played on the song?
Dunno yet, but that song is by Todd Snider, who recorded it on the album ‘Cash Cabin Sessions Vol.3’ back in 2019.
“Jones’ new album was co-produced by Ethan Johns and Mark Woodward”
Ethan Johns is no slouch when it comes to 6-string wrangling. Mark Woodward is TJ’s son/manager.
Ethan produced the mighty Praise and Blame, so this is promising.
Dunno what you think, but I think that is sooooooo cool. Absolutely excellent work, Tom.
Ten years on The Voice and he starts laying into Reality Television?
Good track though.
Did I ever tell you about the time I went to the doctor and he diagnosed me as having Tom Jones Syndrome?
I asked him if it was a common complaint and he said quite a few of his other patients had had it, too.
Then I asked ‘Why, why, why….?’
That wouldn’t have been out of place on Rough and Rowdy ways.
Worst review for Tom’s voice ever.
Tom has let it be known that henceforth he wants to be known as Thom Jones.
Well, I really enjoyed that, but at the same time I’m not sure I’d necessarily want to hear it again.
Nobody said whether he does his “cough”, so I listened. He doesn’t. I enjoyed the backing but his speaking voice was too pointless.

Windmills is an odd pick for his voice.
The Callier tune is more like it.
This Is The Sea might be interesting with the Voice attacking that crescendo.
Michael Scott (snigger)
Tom doing This Is the Sea has me intrigued too. Can’t find it online but this came up. Nice.
Terrific track. I think Tom did a fine job. I’d like to hear others of it.
Obligatory RT link:
Far too much egg for me.
I asked Mike Scott via Twitter about TJ’s TITS (errr ….) and he knew nothing of it but was pleased TJ was giving it a go.
TJs last 3 albums with Ethan Johns have been well worth a look, especially Praise & Blame.
Long Lost Suitcase is patchy, but still had this cracker on it:
