Agreed. Pretty much a heyday Stones sound but that’s no bad thing and there seems to be lots of energy about the whole thing. As you say, not bad for a bunch of octogenarians. I await the album – might even buy it!
Not among Mick’s best lyrics, is it?
A good “generic Stones” riff from Keef, which is to say nobody else could do it like that.
Exactly what their fans want.
No, it’s Sydney Sweeney, a rising thespian of some repute. She’s popped up in things like The White Lotus and Euphoria, and is quite ‘the thing’, as the young people say.
A good song with an eye-catching video. This band could really go places.
Not angry about that – unmistakably Stones (and not trading on past glories pastiche Stones either). Sounds like they’re true to their word and have put out an album (OK, one song) that is not just “keeping the name alive” but a late addition to the cannon
Sounds a bit 80s in a rock sense, among other things, and not in a bad way. They shouldn’t really just jump on the latest bandwagon though. It’s a pleasing little rocker all things considered.
I haven’t heard it yet, but basing my opinion on the informed comments above and my own prejudices, I’ve decided that it’s ok but it’s not as good as Living In A Ghost Town.
I liked Doom and Gloom, Living in a Ghost Town and the last album.
First impressions of this – can’t say I’m that impressed. As Podicle says above, the guitar is absolutely stock to the point that it sounds like an AI Stones riff.
Production seems a strangely slapdash as well, sounds more like an early version or a demo. Really odd choice for the first single.
To paraphase Keith on other bands, I can hear the rock but I’m missing the roll.
For a hot second I thought it was Kylie in the car, and thought the song would be the “collab” we didn’t know we wanted…sadly not.
I mean, it’s OK, but it does go on a bit with the same not-very-exciting verse and chorus (sounding very much alike), making me wish for a weird bridge or even a drum solo to liven things up a bit! Even the chick in the car looks bored towards the end.
I doubt the song is going to form a key plank of their legacy, although it’s competent enough. The video is stunning, from the point of view of featuring the Stones as the audience wants to see them rather than their present day denudation. Standing ovation to whoever dug out all the suitable clips and synced them up.
The kind of puerile sexism we expect from the Slummy Sun. But then the video is blatant sexism too, so heigh-ho…
She is rather well-put-together, isn’t she. Why, if I was 40-50 years younger…
I was watching Mick being interviewed about Hackneed Heirlooms and boy oh boy that mush. I couldn’t make my mind up about it, it was like like that 3D cover on Satanic Majesties, one second he looked 50ish the next 90ish. However to listen to him talking he sounded very youthful.
It’s ok. Verse sounds a bit forced, chorus (and riff) much better. Could pass for a lesser song on Some Girls. I expect there to be better on the album
Hmm, I thought the exact opposite: the verse riff is uber-standard Stones (which is a good thing) which chugs along like a mufucka, and then when you really want it to take off into the stratosphere, the chorus… doesn’t. So close.
Sounds all right, I suppose. I think the older Jagger gets, the more irritating and ridiculous sounding his vocal style gets, so it’s a bit pantomime in that sense.
But it’s a decent enough groove. Reminds me a bit of INXS, which brings it full circle because they kind of aped the Stones a little bit themselves.
I hope Mick Taylor got a fee for his (brief) appearance?
Already posted here:
“Hello, is that the LAPD? I’d like to report a driver not wearing his seatbelt, and his passenger isn’t even in her seat!”
Sounds pretty good to me. Not bad for a bunch of octogenarians.

Is that one of their granddaughters, or great granddaughters, or even great great granddaughters on the video? We should be told.

Quite like it, but that drumming is pretty insipid isn’t it? No swing to it sadly.
Was going to say first track ever released without Charlie on drums, but there are one or two others in their history like where Jimmy Miller plays

Great on first listen.
Video a bit iffy in places.
Welcome back.
I like it much better than anything original they’ve released in decades. That guitar riff, however, is generic Stones to the point of parody.
Like @Gary (who hasn’t heard it) I prefer their previous single (by some margin). So it’s their best since the last one 😉

Stones by numbers

The Sun has its finger on the pulse as usual.

Subtle, subliminal, almost Herzogian.
@Mousey beat me to it ‘Stones by numbers’
If that’s the best thing on the album…

Great video, mind.

Love the Stones, but only till around 1972. Let’s face it. This wouldn’t get played anywhere if it wasn’t by them.
