Just ‘out’ today, it seems: a ‘grey area’ live album featuring three US radio broadcasts 1971-72. I’m posting here rather than as a noticeboard item cos I don’t have an image to upload (a required part of posting a Noticeboard item). The 1971 recording, incidentally, is the earliest MO live recording around.

A slight digression, but any thoughts on the new ‘Is That So’ release?
Colin H says
No.

Colin draws a line beyond which he chooses not to proceed, in front of Johnny Mac’s Indian ventures if I remember correctly.

Well, ‘ish’… 🙂 the beginnings of Shakti actually fall well within the MO2 (1974-75) period. Indeed, John McL wanted the MO’s ‘Visions of the Emerald Beyond’ to be a double LP with one side from his ‘underground’/rehearsal band Shakti and one side of devotional music by himself and his wife Eve, the other two sides being the MO. Columbia said NO.
But I’ve only heard a couple of bits of ‘Is That So’ and I can’t really say anything.

I found a download of unreleased devotional stuff from John & Eve McLaughlin several years ago. A compilation of a few studio tracks and a radio broadcast from WKCR New York followed by a lengthy interview. Probably only of interest to the devotionally-inclined.

Indeed. I have the stuff too. They also contributed two (other) ‘John & Eve’ tracks to a Charisma label various artists LP in 1975 and there was one John & Eve live recording on a v/a live album in the US in 1971.

Was listening on spotify and was waiting for the guitar to kick in and only when reading the review did I realise the synth was in fact Johnny McL’s guitar processes.
I quite like it. The voice is wonderful. You just have to switch off and your expectations.

There is a raging hot north wind outside and all the windows are shut. Perfect for cranking the Mighty Vish up.
thanks Colin.
