I guess the ‘look’ rules a lot of potential recruits out!? With all the Fabs tribute acts out there, I suppose there will be plenty wanting to step up to the top one.
I believe the current Macca taught himself to play left handed for that iconic look, but a right handed Paul just doesn’t look right to me anyway.
I always thought that with Paul playing left-handed when the Beatles were watched on stage there was a symmetry to their look that couldn’t be achieved by an all right-handed group.
‘Paul’ has to be left-handed it certainly wouldn’t look right, should ‘Ringo’ be left-handed too? I don’t think I’d notice.
I saw the Kinks musical quite a few years ago and as I recall ‘Pete Quaife’ was left-handed but would many notice that or even care? Being partly left-handed I notice these things much to my son’s annoyance.
I’d hope Macca would turn up for the audition though.
“Sorry mate, your playing’s great but the voice is well croaky and you can’t hit those high notes, can you? Next!”
Is John Alderton available?
Off stage the retiring Paul didn’t really look that much like Paul. It’s amazing what a wig and a bit of makeup can do.
The key thing with the Bootlegs is their attention to the smallest detail in the Fabs mannerisms: that, and the recreation of the original sound is what makes you (almost) suspend disbelief.
Pretty sure that when I saw them (in the 90s), “Paul” was right handed. Was the only thing that didn’t seem right.
Read an interview in a guitar mag some years back about a Beatles show in the West End where the bloke playing Paul, a right hander, had taught himself to play left handed. He’s now in a tribute band. That level of ability blows my mind.
When we did it, our (left-handed) bass player used to acknowledge the applause after a random song and announce “…and I’m not even left handed!”.
With timing and aplomb our drummer would then add drily “That would explain it…”
