You can’t accuse Joe Jackson of ploughing the same old groove. His new album is old music hall classics! Looks fun from the video, though I imagine many will be mystified!

Mystified indeed as I knew of Harry Champion but of Max nothing.
He may be a relation of Willy Bergman founder of Yiddish Twist.

I’d read that @mikethep which is why I think he maybe a relation of Willy Bergman, not by bloodline but by origin.

Harry Champion’s real name was Crump so was Max a Crump too?

This sounds like one to sit alongside Matt Berry’s TV Themes – great to own and play, but confuses anyone else in the house when I do play it

Hmmm, uncertain how much traction this will get with an audience expecting the hits?

When I first read about this record on Joe Jackson’s website, I assumed that Max Champion was a fictitious figure – that Jackson had simply made up a music hall character around whom to base the album.
Was I wrong? Was there really a music hall performer called Max Champion?
After a brief bit of googling, the only references I can find to Max Champion are to do with the Joe Jackson album…

See my remarks above, though I think it’s a splendid wheeze.

Although the term ‘Health and Safety’ was in use in the USA in 1910 I don’t think it would have crossed the Atlantic for Max to write a song about it.

“I don’t think I can hack it” struck a false note too…

Can I be the first to say “I preferred Max Champion before he was famous”?

When he was Max Silver-Medallist?
