No need for an Album of the Year Poll, then?
Track 2. Vintage title.
If I had had to guess a title I’d definitely have gone for ‘Record Store Day’.
I’d have been amazed if it hadn’t been on there.
Thank you for this @Malc. Ordered it. Can’t wait.
Hurrah!
I initially read this as NWOBHM klaxon.
I’m only slightly disappointed.
Me too
lovely stuff. preordered now & it has increased my excitement about the upcoming Ulverston gig
Obviously very excited about this. Arguably the past two albums have been the best thing they have done- Nigel is an exceptional lyricist. Very much looking forward to this, but will it make the Afterword album of the year? Definitely top three.
I agree on the quality of their output, Paws.
It’s pleasing to be a fan of a long lived band & still be quietly confident that their best is yet to come.
I saw them in March – Dukla Prague kits, Hi Vis & JD oven gloves were pleasingly evident, but it never felt remotely nostalgic.
The band are super tight & the songwriting just keeps getting better – ‘Oblong Of Dreams’ , ‘Slipping The Escort’ are undeniably poignant classics that are moving without mawkishness.
I have days when I seriously think they might be the greatest band to ever emerge from these islands. Even if they’re not, we should treasure every exceptional crumb & embrace the margin.
Horror Clowns Are Dickheads has hit the streaming sites today:
and on Youtube….
McCalliog & His Hens also got a play on 6Music the other night

New album out today. Anyone else had a listen yet?
Yes, I have had it on whilst working this morning, but have just had the record delivered so will have a proper listen this evening. Initial standouts for me are Jack’s Been to the National & Don’t Get Me Wrong Yvonne.
What are your thoughts so far?
Just had one listen on the way to work this morning (didn’t feel right playing it at the gym), so not had time to give it the full six listens yet. Rawlplugs of yesteryear was a winner for me, as was Falmouth Electrics. I’ll enjoy listening to it a bit more over the weekend. Shame I haven’t got one of their gigs in my diary, I noticed they’ve announced one for London next year.
CD not arrived yet, it looks like it was only dispatched today. May have to wait until after work to line it up on Spotify.
Choice opening lyric;
‘Whenever I hear a news report of an avalanche involving British skiiers
I listen in with interest in the hope I might catch the name Ben Shepherd’
