After a few days of heavy tweeting, EC has announced that something new from The Imposter is coming out tomorrow.
An Imposter single? On the Fourth of July? I wonder who it might be about…

The camera noses in on the orange on his face

Never mind this 10″ single nonsense we need a new album. He needs to stop mucking around.
Various rumours of a Kojak Variety part 2 or even a live album with the Roots that was apparently recorded and features a version of the Specials Ghost Town.
Come on Declan.
Admit it Stevie, the guy is as dried up of musical ideas as…err….er…The Stone Roses, yep that`s it, Ian Brown and Co….runs for cover before DFB starts hurling grenades…ouch!!!
Was gonna grab the vinyl but 25 dollars postage for 15 dollar single. And that was after immediate pricing was changed from 70 dollars shipping to UK.
You Little Fool.
The Brooklyn Bowl Roots show was taped officially
When Wise Up Ghost came out, there appeared to be a Squeeze tribute album being put together by The Roots and their producer. I wonder is it really a thing – I’d like to hear that.
Nothing marks a slight dying of the light like a cover of a Paul Simon song from the early 70’s from an artist who once channelled righteous anger and sardonic lyricism so such good effect. Yes the lyrics are relevant to today’s situation although the theme of weary disaffection is universal.
It could have been worse, he could have covered Ronnie talk to Russia.
Is it too early to sound the Death knell on Costello’s career? I am beginning to think he is washed up. An unfinished musical yet to get to the stage, a limited edition vinyl 10″ single of 2 covers that had a run of 1000 copies.Either he has too much money to give a shit any more, his creative juices have dried up or he is content to live off his wife’s earnings.
Very sad because he has been my favourite artist for last 30 years or more but it is clear things ain’t right.
I’ve said it before, but that doesn’t usually stop me.
He’s been in the game for 40 years and achieved everything he wanted to. Perhaps he just wants to spend more time with his family.
New releases mean stepping onto the worldwide PR machine. I don’t think I’d want to spend my life living out of a suitcase at his age – I’m a generation younger and resent being sent away from home by work.
The old record company model is dead. He’s hardly been sitting at home these past two years – the memoirs, the Detour, the current Imperial Bedroom dates, two musicals on the go. Plenty of new songs being written.
I think he’s just had enough of working hard on and promoting an album which sells to us faithful thousands and then disappears. He’s never been one to repeat himself in his career – much to the annoyance of some.
He tired of the rock/pop world before because ‘it was no longer surprising, I knew the ending’. I suspect he’s having more fun than ever
