This is already shaping up to be a cracking year, with the new Decemberists album, Gretchen Peters’ “Blackbird” and the new Steven Wilson which I haven’t heard yet but am sure will be great. Any other early tips for albums of the year?

The Public Service Broadcasting one, obv. Also, I was rather taken with the preview of Admiral Fallow’s new one.
Rhiannon Giddens.
Shake Sugaree
Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman.
See them live if you can and buy their lovely new album “Tomorrow Will Follow Today” from their merch stall.
Well yes, now you mention it Twang. There’s 3 potential beauts released on the 30th of this month: Sufjan Stevens new one Carrie and Lowell is receiving very favourable pre-release reviews. Also on the 30th is a new Ron Sexsmith, Carousel One, as well as Ryley Walker’s Primrose Green. Then there’s Calexico’s Edge of the Sun in April and if you like Mark Knopfler his new one Tracker, promises much and is out next week
Yes, Steer, the couple of brief audio samples that I’ve heard from the new Sufjan Stavens album sound very promising indeed.
Also out on the 30th Godspeed You! Black Emperor. And the week before Inventions have a new one out, really enjoyed the last one in 2013.
In April we also have the new Thee Oh Sees – heard a track on 6Music yesterday which sounded fab.
Also a new Tom Russell which sounds interesting.
I’ve said it before and no doubt will again, but The Unthanks’ Mount the Air is very special.
I’m waiting for Dusty’s ‘Faithfull’. Should be a good contrast to GY!BE, for whom I’m also keen.
I’ve got 4 so far this year.
The Charlatans excellent “Modern Nature”, Father John Misty’s “I Love You Honeybear”, Gaz Coombes “Matador” and the Public Service Broadcasting “The Race for Space”.
I really like the new Waterboys “Modern Blues” too so really that should make it 5. SteveT I’m going to try and sort out the Saturday night gig in Dublin in November if you are still game. I may possibly go to the lot on their special ticket.
Noel Gallager’s Chasing Yesterday. I like it too. There I said it. And I feel so much better.
I’m giving plenty of airtime to the new Anouar Brahem double CD, “Souvenance” – his musical interpretation of the events of the Arab Spring.
It’s a long, intricate piece of work that demands plenty of time and close listening, but it’s quite beautiful.
It’s not on Spotify but some of his other stuff is – really like it. Ta for the tip.
Twang, I’m with you on Gretchen Peters and The Decemberists, to which I would add Father John Misty’s I Love You Honeybear, Cracker’s Berkeley To Bakersfield, and Complicated Game by James McMurtry.
You clearly have good taste so I will check them out.
