According to Bap’s social media (and I am assuming from Brenda Kennedy), material from his new album of previously unheard songs will be previewed on Ralph McLean’s BBC Radio Ulster programme on Wednesday. The release is coming in 2026 to mark a decade since his passing.

On The Mighty Ocean Alcohol is up there in the pantheon of great songs about drinking, with an apposite cameo from Shane MacGowan. I’ve always meant to listen to his other stuff, so thanks for the prompt, @robert.
In related news, I picked up a Brian Kennedy CD for a quid while I was on holiday.
Just the one?
I line ’em up, you knock ’em down…
It was one of his first post-Sony, self-released, albums. I still haven’t played it yet.
To be fair, his album of cover versions, Interpretations. isn’t dreadful. Fairly, but there are a couple of keepers on it.
I really like his first album, The Great War of Words (produced by Tim Friese-Greene).

… Holiday
Big fan of Bap. Loved his work with Steve Earle.
Been backtracking to Bap’s previous band Energy Orchard.
Sound pretty good but on both Spotify lossless and Tidal it all sounds a bit muddy. Was that a complaint with the albums ?
I don’t stream, just use CD / vinyl, and I’ve never noticed anything too muddy about the Energy Orchard albums. Glyn Johns produced their second one “Stop The Machine”, which is an indicator that it should sound ok. Having said that, I listened those albums to death in the ‘90s and have become deaf to any of their faults. I love them all; Energy Orchard were a magnificent band. One of the most exciting live acts I have seen.
I hope you enjoy the adventure of getting to know those records.
Yes, I saw them in Freshers Week and they were great.
