Obituary
This is very sad and a terrible shock: the music writer Neil Kulkarni, of Melody Maker, Wire, and lately the Chart Music TOTP podcast among other things, has apparently died. He was also one of the nice voices on Twitter, where he was cheerfully posting until a few days ago. Never met him, but enjoyed reading and listening to him, and his passing so young feels unbelievable.

Very sad to hear this news. Enjoyed him on the Chart Music podcast very much.

Loved him on Chart Music (I always wished that Al would make Neil and Taylor the permanent co hosts) and I’m stunned. Seemed like a great guy, and he was apparently in fine form at a live Chart Music gig just a week or so ago.

He was indeed. I chatting to him at the bar after the gig about the music scene in 92-93 and he was in fine form. This is really terrible news.

Very shocking. Didn’t always agree with his views but he expressed them with eloquence and conviction. Had a family and just way too young. Very sad. Will miss him on Chart Music (if it continues). RIP

His wife died in 2018 aged only 52. They had four kids.
I’m thinking of those poor children today.

I didn’t know about his wife.

This is terrible news. I would have read him in Melody Maker back in the day but really loved him on Chart Music where his personality shone – all the rotating guests work really well together. Followed him on Twitter for the brief six months or so that I ventured into that snake pit and he stood out as a calm, rational and witty poster who spoke very kindly about his late wife, family and friends. My heart goes out to his children…
