I was in a record shop recently and 2Pac (and other numbers) were situated before all the “A” artists.. so I suppose you’d need to call yourself -oo (minus infinity) to get that coveted spot closest to the door..
In the preview announcement, it clearly states that Mr Young will be playing the UK, but in the list of dates on boards.ie, there are no UK concerts. Strange.
In better news, I see that the European tour is supposed to be kicking off at Dalhalla in Sweden (where I’ve never been).
I doubt it but he’s such a mad, contrary old bastard that nothing would surprise me. He was a Reagan supporter and enthusiastic homophobe back in the day though, wasn’t he?
I know the past is another country and all that, but there’s a quote from a Melody Maker interview from the mid 80s on his Wikipedia page that it’s hard to imagine anyone’s career surviving, even back then.
It seems those rumoured dates are official (plus Glastonbury), I saw him at same venue with The Horse in Toronto last year which was peerless so I will not be going there again. Ottawa was cancelled last year so it is a shame that he’s not playing a show here this time around.
You lucky Irish people are going to get a Neil Young/Van Morrison double bill! @jaygee
We saw Neil at Dalhalla in Sweden some years ago with Promise of the Real. It was a great concert. He seemed to like it there in a quarry in the forest, so much so he’s back again. This time it costs about £150 per ticket. Not really prepared to pay that this time. Last time I think it was half that. I doubt it can be as good somehow. I think he needs to promise to get real. It has a tendency to chuck it down there also. You’ll be down by the river in the wrong sense. Hearing the torrent rather than the rock ‘n’ roll.
When I saw him last year we had a few beers beforehand at a bar within walking distance of the venue. It was a beautiful warm late spring evening. However when we left the bar to walk down to the lake where the venue was situated it had got incredibly windy and a huge thunderstorm was clearly heading our way. There was a big chance it would be cancelled and they wouldn’t let anybody inside the (mostly open air) venue. But luckily it just missed us and the show went ahead with a slight delay. Like a Hurricane seemed to fit the evening and he opened with Cortez.
For a brief and shining moment, I thought the OP was referring to an artist of whom I was unaware – called Neil Dates.
Beat me to it. Found this on Boards.ie
Dates (not yet official but looks kosher) in post. 3850 near the very bottom of the page

Dates? Neil Dates? When’s he coming to the U.K.?
It’s been so long, FAR too long for us Dates aficionados.
Had a Top 30 single in 1980 from memory, so… erm… more successful than Neil Young.
Troll troll troll
Given all the good work Neil does for trolls at his Bridge Benefit concerts, you’d think he’d show a little more gratitude
Rock ‘n’ troll
How many hits did Aardvark have..? They were pretty good but no hits.
They will, however, forever the distinction of being toppermost of the poppermost in lists of bands

He’s doing Glastonbury the night after the Dublin show on the (unconfirmed) List
‘Love and democracy reigns in the USA and the world’. Good ol’ Neil. Gotta love his optimism.
Is Neil a Trump supporter? I do hope not.
I think the “love and democracy” line is clearly an ironic dig at Trump.

Check the link, he detests Trump
I hope not too. Mind, how surprised would you be?
It’s definitely not a ‘Leicester winning the Premier League’ job. That was ‘5000/1’.
‘Dreary Neil + The Orange’ – I’ll offer you ‘2/1’.
Not promising, is it? As I type I’m already prepared to go to ‘Evens’.

He briefly supported Reagan but I don’t recall him being homophobic

He joins the pantheon of rock greats getting free passes for this sort of thing
Lennon (mocking the handicapped)
Townshed (“researching” child pornography for a book that never appeared)
Clapton (racist outburst)
Bowie (pro Nazi remarks in interviews)
Page (“dating” underage girls)
I’m sure there are more…

Yes, just saw that. E89 – E99 for tickets which is a bit of a bargain these days
Be banging on the door at NYA for resales bright and early tomorrow am
Hope the day won’t be ruined by idiots talking as seems to happen at a lot of outdoor (and increasingly indoor) shows in the Republic
Good luck (on both counts)
Cheers, D

Well, if it does chuck it down for hours at Dalhalla, Neil will come dancing across the water, with his galleons and guns….
That could be worth paying £150 for. Nah.

Also London Hyde Park July 11th with Van and Yusuf/Cat Stevens. Hmmm, I might be in London around then …
