It’s nearly ‘home-time’. The sun has been belting down all day and I can’ t wait to get out in the garden, crack open the Shiraz and tuck into a massive ham and turkey salad. However, I need some musical accompaniment. I’m leaning towards loads of upbeat songs with jangly guitars and great harmonies. So, whatcha got?
I’ll start us off with the heavenly Fannies. Have a great weekend everyone.

Jangly-ish, and appropriate for today /this evening. Some harmonies, and very upbeat.
I adore this band, although no-one else seems to much.
Jump In The Pool!
Have a lovely weekend Nial and everyone. 🙂
You might – or might not – be charmed by a slice of tambourine-driven, garagey Sixties ye-ye with a sweet little 12-string part…
This is my go-to song. Marvellous.
Aztec Camera – Somewhere In My Heart
Oh…have a wonderful weekend!
One of the greatest lines in a pop song ever:
“A vision of love wearing boxing gloves, and singing hearts and flowers..”
Has to be this, don’t it?

(Whaaat, what do you mean no jangles, no harmonies? So. I didn’t read the o.p., I was merely looking out the window feeling summer friday evening. Alright, then….)

Better?
Wait – you started this thread in work time? I’m seeing Charles next week – shall I tell him?
Any track from this perfect summer album would do – but here’s Marvellous. Open up the window and jump into the blue!
@chiz schtum, right?
I have a huge iPod playlist for this kind of song, and this just came up. I bloody love The Mutton Birds.

The Gin Blossoms: Alison Road
Good shout @davebigpicture How can this be 23 years old?
Not the cheeriest of lyrics – but a jangly jingle and a warm jet
The Go Betweens
Streets Of Your Town
Oh I love, love that!
Niall, I just know this will be right up your Strasse. The North Mississippi Allstars with a bunch of mates going under the name of The Word. This is a live track from their second album Soul Food which is about 15 years after their debut. It is bloody good, the rest of the album is too – go out and buy it, you know you want to. Echoes of Tedeschi Trucks and Booker T throughout. Shame the cameraman wasn’t better for this live clip:-
Nice, @stevet Demands further investigation.
Much better, @retropath2
And from the same album….
Neither of you have posted my favourite CRR tracks. I’m on the phone so not going to attempt YouTube, but if either of you could post Melanie or The Pain Inside I’d be grateful. (and doesn’t this show what a rich record it is?)
It’s a great record. I won’t post Melanie as the name has a consequence to me, but I will
post this
Big Star

Thought you were writing about Heather Watson…
As I’ve just been to the Jam exhibition at Somerset House, here’s one of my favourite Jam songs – “Carnation”.
Ooops, … don’t know how the Necks crept in there.
Try agains…
My ultimate ‘jangly guitar’ song. In my Top 5 Beatles songs. It just struck me…..I miss George Harrison being alive. He was such a nice bloke, such a positive force.
More Jangly Fabs
@skylarkingmatt would never forgive me if I didn’t include this.
@neil-dyson good choice, sir. For some reason, FOW always remind me of my beloved Fastball.
Wow. Sorry. My Fastball is not normally that big.
It has to be Brainpool and “Holidays”:
Have a lovely weekend!
Who remembers Starry Eyed & Laughing, along with G.T. Moore & the Reggae Guitars, always the support act, never the headline?
Just had a BBQ and the sun is still Be You Tea Full.
From last year, Real Estate with Primitive
Britpop also-rans Whiteout. Derivative as hell, but I love it….
@kid-dynamite Melanie has no such ramifications for me. Now, if you’ d asked for ‘Angie’ by the Stones……

@retropath2 I loved that album. Saw them at Surrey Uni, on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, ’76. Cider, friends, sunshine. One of my favourite gigs.
The Bluetones – Marblehead Johnson
They came, they jangled, they never managed to get better than their 1998 album Return to the Last Chance Saloon, they hang about and then split up because there was nothing left to do (did anyone notice?)
Marblehead Johnson just popped onto the iPod……spooky……..great tune!
One of the many hits that never were,
From Australia in the 80’s
The Someloves Know You Now
Not exactly a summer song but there are parts of this video set in London a very hot day. That in itself makes me feel summery.
Golden Smog!
Jangly guitars and harmonies? gotta be from Merseyside hasn’t it?
