This year’s NAD theme is (urgh) ‘Iconic’ albums.
This seems to – again – be an opportunity to buy charity shop staples on coloured vinyl at expensive prices. But I did spot a couple of interest.
Kirsty MacColl – Desperate Character. Her first LP, the one with ‘Chip Shop’, which has been out of print since 1981, on green vinyl.
Pulp – Different Class. The 2LP version (for enhanced sonics – it was long for a single LP) from last year’s expensive box set, pressed on clear vinyl.
The SAHB – Framed. On black vinyl – whatever will they think of next, etc?
Skids – The Absolute Game & Strength Through Joy, out of print since 1980, on blue vinyl.
Half-speed masters of Dire Straits – On Every Street and Tears For Fears – The Seeds of Love.

I’m interested to see that Naked by Louise is therefore considered to be iconic.
Also, The Farm? I wonder how they’ve defined “iconic”…
Iconic means everything and nothing.
It’s the dumbass word for those fuckers whose knowledge of adjectives is split between three words: perfect, nice and iconic.
The people behind NAD have very little imagination or music nerdery, and seem to think charity shops are real record shops.
Popularity of a CD in a charity shop does not mean it needs to be pressed on NAD exclusive splatter vinyl. If No Parlez hadn’t already been reissued on coloured vinyl, I’m sure they would. They probably will, anyway.
I bet I could get the whole NAD catalogue on charity shop CDs for the price of one NAD LP.
I’d say the peak charity shop CD at the moment is Elton’s Princess Di CD single. I look forward to next year’s NAD exclusive pressing on English Rose coloured vinyl.
Or “Spencer Bile’ green.
I’m currently sorting through the records and CDs of my recently deceased sister. Yes, that Elton John single is there and will end up at a chazza.
There are some gems though – an early Led Zeppelin IV pressing, a DSOTM early rarity, a Wall first press, and loads more, all in perfect nick. No, they aren’t going with the Elton John single…
“whatever will they think of next?”
I imagine that’s what the band thought at the time.
Good luck to them with that selection. GO NAD in fact, as it is the singular of the whole thing.
