Not exactly the same, but Byrne has some history of taking credit where he probably shouldn’t. Ask Tina Weymouth or Chris Frantz

She was credited[*], as were all the other artists sampled on the album. She just wasn’t paid. That was due to the proprietors of the label Byrne and Eno sampled tracks from. They paid the label for what they used but seemingly nothing was passed on to her.
[*] Mis-spelled on the sleeve and inaccurately described as to her former status as a performer, however.
