Here’s hoping Steely Dan seize the moment to do a few gigs on their own whilst they are over here. They’d easily sell out the RAH. I’d be disappointed if the ‘Dan were SUPPORTED by The Eagles.

Funnily enough I have only seen either band once, and at the same venue – the MEN in Manchester (or whatever it was called at the time). Both bands were missing key members, and both were possibly the most sonically accurate reproductions of their records I have ever heard live.
Which left me with absolutely no interest in paying the probably eye bleeding sums of money required for these gigs.
I would however see the Dan on their own (at probably merely donkey choking prices – their gig is currently the most expensive I have ever seen, though Taylor Swift will beat it in the summer). Support last time was Steve Winwood, and I’d see him again!
I guess it genuinely is “last chance to see” this time though.

Had tickets to see ver Dan at Birmingham Town Hall in Spring 74 (75?) only for them to pull out of that and several other dates and not play live again until the mid-90s. Finally got to see them not long after WB died with the Doobie Brothers at Dublin’s 3 Arena, in -‘ I think – 2017.
While the sonic quality was indeed great (the guitarist in particular was excellent) it all seemed a little soulless – more surface sheen than emotional substance – for my taste. As a result, skipped them when they came back with Steve WInwood in support not long after.
Having seen the Eagles and Elton John amongst the acts get blown away by the Beach Boys at Wembley Stadium on mid-summer’s day in June 75, have no desire to ever see them again

Wait…what? Walter Becker died with the Doobie Brothers? What the hell was going down? 😉

Cruel but entirely justified

He would love to tour the South lands in a travelling minstrel show. Brighton Weymouth, Bristol, Penzance…..

You must be joking son, where did you get *those* shoes?

I’d love to see SD in Brighton; it’s my home town.

I wonder how many of the audience will watch the Steely Dan set then go home?
Tiggerlion says
That’s what attracts me. The Co-op has a guillotine finish at 10:30, though I expect The Eagles to push it. Do the Dan come on at 8 and finish at 9? I could be in bed before the 10 o’clock news renders me suicidal.

Not many
Jaygee says
With the cheapest tickets apparently £150, probably not many

Knock a zero off, and I might consider it.

My son has emailed me if I want to go to a gig in Manchester on the 31st to see R Thompson (so that’s one date I can’t do). I wonder if they do discounts if you only want to see the support, (I’ve asked and tried before to no avail).
Mike_H says
1.) Those ticket prices are -way- outside my budget.
2.) No interest whatsoever in seeing The Eagles. At any price.
3.) If Steely Dan are the support then they won’t be playing a full set. About an hour only.
4.) Can’t see Fagen bringing the full band* over with them for a support tour.
*2 guitars, 2 keyboards (including D. Fagen esq.), 4 brass/reeds, 3 female singers, bass, drums etc. on those classic YT clips from earlier this century.

I’m hoping the Dan might headline a gig in Dublin on their own

Since when did three dates in one venue become a ‘residency’?

Sounds posher than “Short Term Tenancy”.

Or sofa surfing.

Going by Setlist.fm, SD are playing 65 minutes from 7:30 until 8:35 each night, playing 12 tracks. Not always the same tracks either whereas the Eagles play the same set every night.
Mike_H says
Lots of absolute live bangers for Donald to choose from.
My SD coverband chums generally play two 13-track sets and vary them quite a bit. I once counted up the number of songs I’d seen them cover and it was approaching 60. Since then they’ve added Here At The Western World and The Second Arrangement.
H.P. Saucecraft says
Ask them to do American Lovers. Their best song.
Jaygee says
Even with tickets up in the Gods selling at 199.50 plus the absurd and unjustifiable service and admin fees, they’re having no trouble selling out – just added two more nights.
Assuming their contracts allow them to do so, hoping the Dan might use the few days between shows to get their arses over to Dublin and do a show
fentonsteve says
The Dan now not doing the UK Eagles support dates due to “extenuating circumstances”.
The Doobies to replace the Dan.
mikethep says
Hmmm…wonder what the extenuating circumstances are? Extenuating circumstances are usually trotted out to help you avoid a punishment.
H.P. Saucecraft says
Apparently they can’t find Walter Becker.
Tiggerlion says
I hope Donald is ok.
Jaygee says
Wonder if those who forked out for tickets just to see Ver Dan will be able to get refunds
