Ian Paice was the first drummer I saw live. Simon Kirke was the second. Happy to say they are still two of my favourite drummers.

I wish their fundraising well but, Jeez, that’s one of those ghastly circa 1990 Princes Trust TV-athons revisited. Do we know if Ray Cooper will be on a podium with his tambourine? Will people be wearing suit jackets with the sleeves rolled up?

Gosh, quite the oasis of festive cheer here isn’t it. I’d be happy to go – Ian Paice, Dave Bronze and Robbie McIntosh would be enough for me, let alone the rest.
A Dave Bronze story – I was in a pub somewhere in Kent, buying a pint at tthe half time break of a Hamsters gig when DB joins me at the bar. I think I offered to buy him a drink and he declined as he was getting a round in (my memory is unreliable – it may even have been a Be Sharp gig as I saw him with them once or twice). Anyway, I ask him when the next gig is thinking it would be the next Hamsters gig. He just smiled and said “ahh, that would be telling” and wandered away. A mate of his lent over and said “he’s not supposed to say but he’s rehearsing with Eric Clapton “. And so it came to be.
