Posting this for no other reason than its a brilliant clip from last nights Nick Cave concert in Brighton.
Always loved this song (and the album it came from) and this live version certainly does it justice…
Post your recent brilliant clips as you wish….

Thanks for sharing, but it’s always weird seeing Nick Cave performing in daylight or on a brightly lit stage.
To me, his music – especially his murder ballads and atmospheric songs like The Carny, Red Right Hand, Push The Sky Away, etc. – always sounds like it should come at you out of the shadowy gloom, with Cave and the Bad Seeds occasionally surrounded by darkness.
My mate was in The Lanes yesterday when Nick did his rooftop (above Resident Records) concert. He said “Twas wonderful and weird at the same time, Nick in the sunshine is just not right” .
I thought Resident Records was in the North Laine area of Brighton, and not the Lanes? Maybe I’m wrong…
Do we have any Brightonians here on the Afterword?
North Lanes, although it’s much busier than the streets south of North Street. We usually just say The Lanes, meaning both areas. I think parking signs say North Lanes for the area around Theatre Royal.
My mate and his mates always call that entire area The Lanes: next thing I’ll be re-telling my tale of meeting Nick C in a Brighton café (bastard).
There is an I in North Laine, as @duco01 points out. The ambience up there, towards the station, is still much more seedy and vibrant than the chi-chi chocolate box of the Lanes. Please don’t confuse them.
Me? Originally Lewes.
Having lived there for a number of years for us the whole area was The Lanes until you wanted a specific point when North Laine was used when, for instance wanting to meet outside Residents.
Bloody incomers……. 😉
My one true love, born and bred in the Brighton area has just told me I’m talking bollox
Not for the first time, I might venture…
Behave. Arf.
Lived there for 14 years (82-96) never met some many clebs, K Waterhouse, A Nightingale, C Eubank, C Sensible (lived in Bath Street) B Gillespie, Theatre Of Hate bloke etc. Herbie Flowers played every Sunday evening in my local (Sussex Yeoman) with a couple of young musos. Always happy to retell the story of the WOTWS double session fee…
“Captain Sensible is a Wanker” daubed on Bath Street Wall, wasn’t there? Poor bloke.
Wasn’t me wot wrote it, honest…
I lived there for 15 years and you are right it’s North Laine.I lived about 400 yards dfrom there
Rather lovely.
I was at the Preston Park gig and can confirm that it was excellent. Kylie appearing was a nice surprise, particularly for Mrs Hound who was accompanying me on sufferance but is a big Kylie fan. Ending with into my arms ensured that everyone left with a warm glow inside.
In related “surprise guest appearance” news, we had Massive Attack playing here in Singapore this last week and on “Teardrop” was the one and only Elizabeth Fraser…..
I didn’t go to this concert – whilst I do like Massive Attack, for some reason the live version didn’t appeal. If I had of know Elizabeth Fraser would have been guesting though…..
Apparently at the end of the concert they unfurled a Palestine flag, which has now got them banned from any future Singapore concerts.
Going to their Melbourne gig in a couple of weeks. Good to know Ms Fraser will be attending.
Nick and the Bad Seeds at Preston Park last night was just a fabulous gig. It is indeed slightly unnerving to see him in daylight but the sun setting behind the stage gave the whole evening a rather magical feel. He clearly still a strong connection to the city and its people ( which is widely reciprocated.) The crowd gently singing the chorus of Into My Arms was as genuine and touching a moment of connection between performer and audience as I can remember.
Thanks for the clip, @chrisf.
What a treat!
It certainly all sounds like an enormous success.
I enjoyed that @chrisf
All that talk about Nick Cave being seen in daylight, well I stood with him in Finsbury Park in days of yore watching Neil Young. I only realised it was him when I turned to my girlfriend he nodded in response.
Also that talk about The Lanes in Brighton brought back memories of a gang of Germans chasing me through those very lanes way back in the late 60’s. Just because one of the girls with them took a liking to me in the pub. Those were the days I never thought I could run that fast.
I saw Nick and Kylie slow dance at Victoria Park in London. At the end of the song as she left the stage Nick said to the crowd ‘yeah I know, I should be so lucky’.,
As you see in her doc on Netflix they obviously adore each other as mates.
I used to see Nick Cave in daylight when I worked just off Ladbroke Grove. I saw him going into the Woolworths that used to be on Portobello Road. It kind of burst the prince of darkness mystique. He reminded me of the Cat in the Hat more than anything else.
Cat in the Hat! Yes – I can see that!
…and not an ounce of fat, just like Jack Spratt…
…and a head for a hat – and he released the bat(s)…
(I’ll get me long black coat…)
Nick ‘n’ Mix?
He was just picking up a few chocolates that had landed on the floor nearby having been dropped there by some over exuberant sweet grabbers – that’s where the wild Roses go, anyway.
*Applause*
He’s a very nice man. We have a lot of mutual friends. I worked with him a few weeks ago in Madrid and we chatted about one of his favourite crew members who passed last year who was one of my closest friends.
