About eleven years ago I saw a tribute Led Zep band in Carlisle, they tried really hard to look like the young(er) Led Zep which they sort of achieved in a sub ‘Stars in your eyes’ way.
Musically they were pants.
Fast forward to saturday just gone. The show started with ancient BBC news footage, the the band came on.
Looking nothing like LZ, musically they were superb, to my (tin & untutored) ears they were note perfect & utterly brilliant.
It is so hard to pick highlights as the whole show was wonderful, but for me, the battle of evermore, Kashmir & Black dog stood out (only just, it really was that good).
There were plenty of people in the audience older than me (I am 62) but quite a lot of 20/30 somethings & one an had 4 lads with him & they looked like early teens.
I did not see anyone leave without a big stupid grin on their faces.
Fabulous night out, cannot recommend them highly enough.

Sounds like a top night – will certainly keep an eye out for them.
Any other recommendations for tribute bands – saw the Australian Pink Floyd a couple of times and they were very good indeed.

Would heartily recommend Hats Off To Led Zeppelin. Have seen them on a couple of occasions at The Stables, Wavendon. They play interesting and varied setlists and have a ‘screamer’ in the Percy role. Not an exact copy but near enough.

Reading-based Oye Santana are a great night out. They are at The Half Moon, Putney this Friday (5th). Milan/Carlos is an amazing player.

Also at The Half Moon, on April 28th, the amazing Stanley Dee playing Steely Dan (and maybe one or two from Donald Fagen’s Nightfly) with precision and humour. On their last outing they played everything the real SD played at their Wembley Arena gigs, preceded by a set of the ones they wished that The Dan had played but didn’t.
4 good singers, 3 brass players plus hot guitarist, keyboards bass and drums.
Yes. There is gas in the car.

Fab fact about Mothership; 3 of them (guitar, bass and keyboards) play in a very good Joni Mitchell Tribute act that I saw in early March. The guitarist had about 10 guitars on stage, which was a bit of a giveaway
I could imagine JPJ having played with Joni. But Bonham and Jimmy Page? I can’t imagine that

Fred Zepplin are on their 25th anniversary tour – they are Midlands based.
Robert Plant has seen them 3 times and Jason Bonham has played with them too.
Jimmy Page even asked them to play a charity event for him .
A great night out for £10 – they play Halesowen Friday.
I will be there with a big grin on my face all night.
