If you were playing a game of ‘invent the most unlikely supergroup ever’, I reckon a winning combination might be:
Chaka Khan
Ian Anderson
Jack Bruce
Nik Kershaw
David Clayton Thomas
Bobby Kimball
And yet it happened.
Musings on the byways of popular culture
Jeez, what a corporate mashup.
In good German tradition, totally mimed (to this day, they don’t do performance).
Mick, Keith, Ronnie & Charlie? ; ))
There was a supergroup on Swap Shop once (not Brown Sauce) – it featured Leo Sayer and Suzi Quatro definitely and possibly Alvin Stardust. Don’t remember the rest. True story!
A corduroy sandwich made with black leather bread.
For that image, you’re welcome!
According to the YouTube comments thread for the Alan Price supergroup, the other one consisted of Leo Sayer, John Miles, Suzy Quatro, Kenny Rogers and John Christie. (John Christie?)
John Christie? Wasn’t he the serial murderer at 10 Rillington Place?!?
Kenny Rogers? The COTCH?
Some record company must had had a lot of faith in Mr Christie – in the early 70s when cinema sessions still included a supporting short feature, I recall seeing “Introducing John Christie” which consisted of Mr C singing half a dozen tunes while whistfully walking along canal banks, throwing stones on the water, striding down fashionable city streets etc
The Young and Moody band, featuring Lemmy, Cozy Powell and (ahem!) The Nolan Sisters.
Not that far-fetched. Motread appeared on the Young Ones, the Nolans appeared on Filthy Rich & Catflap. Cozy Powell may have appeared on Fresh Fields, but I’ll have to check that.
Motörhead Girlschool. Sadly three of them are no longer with us.
Warning: contains DLT
The reference to Swap Shop above made me think of this – Alan Price, Cozy Powell, Brian Robertson, Chris Spedding, John Miles. Not half bad really.
That was excellent.
David Crosby
Ultravox
Graham Nash
James Taylor
Stephen Stills
What a ridiculous supergroup this was. Apart from the fact that it was EXCELLENT.

Bettering SuperHeavy takes some doing, but what about this lineup:
Neil Peart – drums
James Burton – guitar
Bootsy Collins – bass
Steve Nieve – keyboards
Fergie – voice
Could there be anything worse than this one:
Ian Brown – vocals
Noel Gallagher – guitar
Adam Clayton – bass
Meg White – drums
Linda McCartney – keyboards
You forgot Linda’s backing vocals. I have it on good authority that they were only routed through her monitor and not the main PA.
How about?
Miles Davis – Trumpet
Thelonious Monk – Piano
Art Blakey – Drums
Charles Mingus – Bass
Stan Getz – Saxophone
Is there a room big enough for all their egos?
There is of course the genuine Jazz supergroup that played Massey Hall.
Dizzy Gillespie.
Charlie Parker.
Bud Powell.
Charles Mingus.
Max Roach.
