Surprised this fella yet to have a mention since his death at the w/e of “untreated illness”(!?). Maybe not as influential a figure as some of his african cohorts, this song alone will have me celebrating its writer and bemoaning his demise.

Can’t say I was a fan but I respected that he got more people interested in the sound of the kora.
I was unaware of his death until seeing this thread. Not especially one of my go-to African artists, but a loss nonetheless.
I completely missed this. He was the first African Musician I ever heard.
I saw Mory with a large, top notch band at Roskilde and he was absolutely sensational. The whole tent was dancing. I can’t think of any other African artist that has got the rest of the world dancing with such joyous enthusiasm.
A very sad loss.
I always thought this was better than Yeke Yeke
