Love him, or loathe him, but today Mr Steven Patrick Morrissey became a pensioner. At 66 he now qualifies for the state pension. I’m not sure even if he does still qualify, after living abroad for so long.
If he is eligible, I wonder if he’ll take it, and that poses the question of whether millionaire rock stars do claim their pensions, or give it away to good causes.
Incidentally, my wife who turns 66 in September, recieved a letter this week about applying for her pension. It’s not paid automatically, you have to apply. Anyway, she did, and the good news is that she’ll get the full pension of £921 a month.
The sad news, is that I have to wait another three years, as they pushed the goalposts back to 67 for me. Oh well, never mind, I can always be a kept man.
Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is, are there any songs that Morrissey might be singing today, now he’s joined the OAP club?

Nice one! I can imagine Morrissey shrugging his shoulders and not giving a toss about his age!
Every Day is Like Sunday (when you don’t have to get up for work)
It certainly is. I retired last year, and one of life’s simple pleasures is not setting the alarm clock anymore, although most days I’m up earlier than when I was working.
Totally agree though I’m a tea in bed, papers/Wordle up at 9 guy generally. Mind you, I just came back from a motorbike trip to Normandy. Retirement is brilliant.
It certainly is Twang. It’s something you don’t really think about when you’re working, it sorts of creeps up on you. Work dominates so much of our lives, that I know people who are too scared to retire, as they wonder what they’ll do all day.
I love every single minute of it, and wish I could have done it earlier. There’s only one downside: time seems to fly by now I’m retired. How did I fit it all in when I was working?

Thanks to this thread I’ve just discovered the age of retirement in UK is 66. Here in Italy it’s 67. Perhaps because Italians are noticeably less productive during their working years.
It will rise to 67 by the time I retire (then a further year at some future date). I read yesterday that Denmark has just raised theirs to 69 for anyone born after 1970. In France there were riots when it was raised from 62 to 64. Mind you, I have no idea how much those pensions are worth as I understand the UK’s is low in comparison with the rest of Europe.
Most professionals (teachers, firemen etc) in France retire at 60 on their private pensions then wait until the roughly 1500 euros a month state pension kicks in.
