Monzo using Van’s Days Like This in their latest TV advert tonight.
Can’t remember hearing his music used in ads before. Has he sold his catalogue?

He did a deal with Sony back in 2015 that gave them rights to the recordings but not the songwriting copyright for around 30 of his albums. The deal excluded excluding Astral Weeks, Moondance and Days Like This, so Monzo’s use must have been blessed by the grump himself.
When there’s no complaining, the royalties come in.
I wonder why Days Like This? An ok album but hardly ranking with the other 2 or indeed many others.
Does anything make sense in the Van Morrison world ?
Tupelo Honey is still missing from his history – as far as I know it’s out of print physically, doesn’t appear on any streaming services and is even missing from the discography on his own website…..

Days Like This is an easy go-to soundtrack to an ‘uplifting’ montage.
The song Tupelo Honey was played over the closing credits of Peter Fonda’s 1997 film Ulee’s Gold.
I don’t remember much about the film other than Fonda played a beekeeper and that my wife and I both enjoyed it.
I can’t say I know anything about the licencing arrangements.
Pretty sure the Irish tourist board used Days Like This in an ad a while back. It’s a bit like Born in the USA – people hear the title and consider it suitably uplifting without listening too closely to the rest of the lyrics.
