As part of the Canon mega-discussion we unearthed quite a few mix albums. However good luck if you want to listen to them on Spotify (and I assume other streaming services). LTJ Bukem is on there, but absent are
Jeff Mills – Live at the Liquid Rooms
Carl Cox – FACT 1 and 2
Chemical Brothers – live at the Social Vol 1
Almost everything on Global Underground
John Digweed is quite well represented, but by no means is it everything.

I thought that licensing had been sorted – the above are hardly obscure underground artists, or has it not? Anyone come up with any explanations as to why the mix album has been so poorly served by streaming?

I suspect that quite a few of these were on labels that no longer exist. Pretty sure the Jeff Mills and the Live At The Social series at least were on React, who went under about ten years ago. Licensing for streaming would be a nightmare, if not impossible.
@kid-dynamite true of React but the Global Underground series is still going strong, and the Live at the Socials were on Heavenly which is also still with us. So must be the licensing rather than the labels. There was a thread on vinyl or CD or digital a few weeks ago – clearly mix CDs are one of the few genres worth hanging onto on CD, never released on vinyl and unlikely to be licensed to streaming. A quick glance at the itunes store reveals similarly very patchy coverage.
Hopefully my collection will be worth something!

We fans of mix albums are spoilt. Recently I bought John Digweed’s latest, ‘Live In Montreal’. The mix itself is eight hours long over six CDs, but thanks to Amazon’s Autorip feature I also got over 60 unmixed tracks free.
Same with Sasha’s new artist album that I got today. It’s a fantastic time to be alive, KD. More Dark Side Of The Moog, Sasha and a new Fall EP.
My pension plan: Northern Exposure 1/2/3, Live at the Liquid Rooms and 70 Minutes of Madness.
