Planning a trip to Miami/Florida – want some good music to put me in mood (other than Gloria Estefan/Pitbull/Will Smith) — Miami doesn’t seem as readily associated with any rock bands songs as other major American cities, so any recommendations would be gratefully received. Thanks!

It’s several years since I worked in Miami but I believe it’s still pretty well served by South American headbanger, thrash types mainly coming out of Brazil.
Suggest you check out some of the Latin Armetican clubs and venues of which there are/were many.
Avoid South Beach unless you’re a poser.
I’ve just remembered one of my favourite haunts was a club called Tobacco Road in the Miami River area off Brickell. Well worth a visit if it’s rock you’re looking for.
Neil’s, live, Tonight’s The Night ‘new’ album was recorded at The Roxy, Miami.
I wonder if I can change my name to stevie of wrongness or some such.
I know Neil made the original album in Hollywood, and I know The Roxy is in Hollywood, but I’d just been listening to the live one on repeat, and hadn’t read the liner notes(which I now have).
Neil does say “welcome to Miami beach”.
So ignore the Miami connection, but listen anyway, as it’s excellent!

Apparently, the Bee Gees were based there for stuff like You Should Be Dancing onwards, so late-ish 70s. Making it a major disco town then.
Go inland and you are in a hotbed of southern boogie bands. Sounds scary.

I’ve never been to Miami, so I have nothing to say on the matter. But I did like what you did with the header!
According to Stetsasonic, Miami is where they got the deepest bass.

Well there’s a load of recordings featuring ‘Miami’ Steve Van Zandt but they don’t necessarily evoke Miami (except perhaps the number of Springsteen songs that alude to living on the coast).
What’s amazing is that a search for the word ‘Miami’ in the titles in my digital library produced zero. In contrast, Memphis (where I’ll be in a few weeks) threw up over 40 titles.
