Funny that Jeff posted Paul Simon above – I was humming “I Am A Rock” earlier today as I looked out on a “freshly fallen silent shroud of snow”, one of my favourite lines from my favourite lyricist.

Agreed – she won’t be missed as a character but her leaving could have been much more dramatic having built her up as something “special” in the spy department.

I quite enjoy Dai – I found it a real disappointment. (SPOILER ALERT as per Gaz above) It seemed an excessively long-winded way to lose a major character, and in such a “silly” fashion. I know there was the […]

I don’t think I’ve seen that video before and am now gripped by a sense of failure. How come my morning commute never features lingering glances across the railway carriage with an Agnetha lookalike?

Thanks for the heads up @Gatz – as I said sad, slow and depressing (but still utterly lovely).

Family Life is brilliant – and partly responsible for my lovely wife telling me that I enjoy “sad, slow, depressing music.”

But (and sorry I’m late to this party)”At The River” is based on a sample of “Old Cape Cod” by Patti Page – which clearly does have sand dunes and salty air.
A difficult legal ruling for BC?

Bill Pritchard sings of Trentham, Sneyd Green, Milton Road, Westport Lake and Hanley’s Cultural Quarter – all in Stoke on Trent. I’d have posted the even more obscure “Almerend Road” but for the fact I can’t find […]

Is this a Christmas record or a winter one?
This is undeniably Christmas

That’s a terrific watch. I used to feel that I was at the cutting edge of pop culture watching as a 17 year old sixth former but with the benefit of hindsight it’s even better. George mentions his solo single […]

The bassist really needs to watch his footing! And who turned the drum kit around mid-performance?

Turned fifty on Saturday. No big deal. Turning thirty on the other hand was utterly traumatic.

I could have sworn that Natalie Merchant had done a version, either solo or with 10,000 Maniacs but I’m damned if I can find it anywhere. Anyone help?

Rashid hasn’t set the world alight but he’s the best/most experienced of the contenders to act as second spinner (if we take Moeen as being the first) and would therefore be in my side in the […]

I agree – a batsman who bowls and he’s done a better job as a bowler for England than I ever expected of him but it’s in the absence of a genuine world-class spin option for England. If we had a genuine Test […]

As a Worcestershire supporter, Moeen has given me an enormous amount of pleasure over the years and I feel a certain amount of reflected glory in having sung his praises to fellow cricket lovers during his […]

I’ve given the premise of the OP absolutely no thought but just wanted to give another vote of appreciation for Helplessness Blues by Fleet Foxes. I loved their first album but this was better still and the title […]

@Smudger I’m afraid I can’t quite let it pass that Trent Bridge is the most picturesque ground in the world. As I allude to above and Salty similarly below, Worcester is (probably, on all available evidence, […]

Thanks Bingo. I’m not going to claim that I completed every obstacle (I fell into the water when frying to cross it monkey bars and failed to reach the top of “Everest”) but did more than I thought possible. What […]
