rotherhithe hack commented on the post, Jeremy Hardy – RIP 2 weeks ago
Saw him onstage a handful of times and always a great show. While he held strong political views he was always clever at keeping it funny as he got them across, and in a way that didn’t alienate people who […]

It was fascinating. High point for me was the graph of the baseline on ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’.

As a remainer I’ve always said there’s a strong logic for a second referendum when people know what leaving looks like. Have no time for those Brexiteers who shout ‘Betrayal!’ at the idea; they’re saying that we […]

Enjoyed it, even though the ending was a bit vague. Highlight to me was the dancing, and don’t believe for a moment that was a recreation of how they did it in the early 18th century.

Wonderful stuff. Thanks for positing Tiggerlion.
The Mrs and I were in Palma about 10 years ago and went to the Miro house, which had been turned into a museum with galleries of his paintings on display. All […]

Against prevailing conventional wisdom, but I suspect if there was another general election soon with the choice of May or Corbyn as PM she would win again, maybe with a small majority. Despite all her failings […]

I gave up on QT a long time back. I think the presence of the studio audience and the fact that they’re allowed to applaud encourages too many of the participants to play to the gallery and come out with a lot of […]

Watched it yesterday evening. One thing that stood out to me was how every soldier who smiled had terrible teeth.

I don’t think that Corbyn is playing a long game. He’s quite happy with the prospect of us leaving the EU, and he’s more interested in the gesture politics in which he has spent his career rather than dealing with […]

Oh dear! Saw him play at the Barbican about ten years ago. It’s usually quite a sterile atmosphere there but he really shook the place up; seemed to have half of the audience dancing onstage throughout the gig.

I take some comfort from Johnson being booed at the test match this weekend. A non-political event and it would be hard to identify the crowd as left or right wing; more likely a mixture of people with varying […]

I’ve heard there’s a director’s cut hidden away. They don’t escape but are captured by the Nazis. Maria and the captain placed in front of a firing squad. Kids led off to a boarding school run by the Hitler Youth.

‘Between the Lines’. Early 90s drama set in the complaints and investigations branch of the Met Police. First two series were great at exploring the moral complexities of police work and the pressures to which […]

Agree. Homicide: Life on the Street was a masterpiece. Great ensemble piece and a lot of dark humour.

As a page turner I’d recommend Conclave by Robert Harris. Intelligent commercial fiction about the election of a new pope that has a series of intriguing twists and a bunch of well drawn characters.
And – […]
