Podicle commented on the post, Great tracks that seem oddly out of place on the great albums they appear on 3 months ago
TWYLD is a wonderful detour as we journey through the mind of the protagonist. It’s the idealised dream of love. I know it’s heresy to suggest, but the track I skip most often is Cyprus Avenue. It’s a strai […]

Love them both where they are.

Not sure why they would wait until 2028 for this. If I were a record company wanting another harvest from a legacy act I’d get product to the market ASAP. Every year they wait the market contracts further.

I had that on a Guitar Player flexi disc when I was at school, and spent a long and fruitless time trying to learn it. Then I found out it was sped up on the soundtrack.

For those (cough, Mr Fox, cough) dismissing this release because of Vai, from a guitarist’s perspective Fripp, Vai and Belew come from a very similar place, even if their output seems quite different. They have […]

IT guys sail very close to their stereotypes. Some time ago I had taken my laptop in to the IT department to sort out something or other, and sat for a while next to the young, obese, neck-bearded, malodorous, […]

Having an 84 year old parent, I was stunned by how active GC was during the gig. As I said, he was mostly on his feet for the gig. The crowd overall was rapturous and very high energy. Yes, Michael Hampton has […]

I was at the afore-mentioned Brisbane gig, which was a standing venue, and the atmosphere may have been a bit more vibrant. GC was off his chair for a good 60-70% of the night. The real casualty was other original […]

Great points, Bingo. I’ve had similar experiences in the workplace, including an especially painful 4-hour cultural heritage workshop (mandatory annual training) where an Aboriginal lady repeatedly said stuff […]

It seems the movement in the UK is far more skinhead/football hooligan-centred than here in Australia. We have our share of that, but I suspect most of the support over here is from scared, ignorant people worried […]

The issue of why young, white males are flocking to the right is pretty easy to decode: they have been burdened their entire, short lives with the message that everything is their fault. The cause of every […]

Step one: Define the perceived problem. What are the specific claims being made? Is it that ‘foreigners are taking our jobs’, or that ‘foreigners are committing more crimes’ etc? Step two: Actually try to find […]

I’m really torn. The original is so perfect and has been such a huge part of my life for four decades now that I don’t want to taint it. I’m guessing it’s a lot more scripted, with lots of forced callback jokes to […]

To learn from what happened in the US we (I’m including Australia here) need to actually listen to and try to understand the concerns of these people instead of instantly dismissing them as idiots or racists or […]

Like most male music snobs, I used to pretend I liked Zappa. Have a bunch of albums and can’t see myself listening to any of them again. He’s a puerile dickhead who never really had anything to say, musically or […]

Twang, your OP is virtually word for word the conversation I was having with someone at work this week. My ‘discovery’ days were the 80s and early 90s, where the music I wanted was often hard to get. This e […]

Supertramp are one of those Greatest Hits artists for me, like ELO, where they have enough good tunes to fill most of a compilation but any further exploration is disappointing. I remember reading an interview […]
