Try Brew York on Walmgate for beer. They brew the beer on site so it’s a good pub to visit.
Then you are next to The Blue Barbakan where we ate a couple of weeks ago. A Polish restaurant with excellent pierogi. […] -

Yes, lots of people said the “slops” ended up in the mild.

I always drank mild until it “disappeared” 20 years or so ago. My local, before football, served Bass Mild on hand pumps and almost all the men in the bar drank it. They put it on electric pumps and everyone […]

Yes, he has thanks for asking. He filmed that just after leaving drama school and has performed in The Play That Goes Wrong and Comedy About A Bank Robbery in the West End and generally worked, albeit with a few […]

If you’ll indulge me, this is Master Pinmonkey walking around in the video. He had a very enjoyable 3/4 days filming and the video was directed by Karl’s daughter.

I am always envious of people who haven’t watched The Sopranos and are about to start because it is just so wonderful. James Gandolfini is perfect casting although it seems unfair to the other actors to single him […]

I’ve read Shantaram too. Thought it was excellent but is it just autobiographical fiction? The follow up, “The Mountain Shadow” (a similar length) is on my bookshelf but I’m not sure whether I will ever read it. I […]

Agreed on Readly app. I’m not quite sure what is in it for the magazines publishers though? I read probably 10 magazines on there, that in the past I would regularly buy or have even subscribed to in the past. […]

This band were unknown to me prior to booking the gig.
They describe themselves as Southern Gothic but think punk/pub rock/blues/rockabilly. Having seen hundreds of gigs over the years, this was up there with the […] -

Saw them at the the Welly Club in Hull, 22/6/17. The band played Michael Picasso, which was very poignant as Mick Ronson’s mother had been buried in Hull the same day.

If I can add a postscript to this. I was indeed doing Dale Warland a disservice, as it was indeed his piece of music that I added. I contacted him via his website and outlined how I had come across his piece. He […]

I think that there actually may be two different songs. There is “I Have Had Singing” which was written by Stephen Sametz (performed by Chanticleer) and “Always Singing” by Dale Warland, both inspired by the words […]

Back in the late 1960s my great-grandfather, who was 85 at the time, was interviewed for a book by Ronald Blythe called “Akenfield:Portrait of an English Village”. It attempted to record an oral history of soon to […]

Saw them at Fibbers, York on this tour. Pete Shelley came on stage looking like he’d just woken up but soon warmed up to play a fantastic set. I must say that the whole band seemed really together and enjoying it […]

A little late in replying but I was at Nottingham. Fantastic gig at a great venue, but how do you begin to describe Katzenjammer?
It was the start of a purple patch of gigging for us. Following Katzenjammer, we […]
