‘Songs for Our Ancestors’ by The Steve Miller Band ( from the second album); he may well have seen PF when he was in based in London?

And alt-rocker Ariel Pink was there apparently, being a massive Trump fan.

Changing the terms a bit, but ( I think) Melody Maker gave away a free single ( not flexi) in 1988 with a early version of Happy Mondays ‘Moving in With’ that has still never been officially released—I think […]

I saw The House of Love support Loop at the LSE in 1987, and remember Guy Chadwick wearing a jacket, and being impressed by Terry Bickers: I presume they played “all the early hits” , but because at that stage I […]

Good times: on the other hand, I saw Galaxie 500 in the same ex-church in 1989 and remember it very vividly ( especially the lovely guitar solo in Snowstorm; the first time I heard someone dare to play with a wah-wah pedal).

Double bill of Lush and The Pale Saints at the Norwich Arts Centre,1990. The scene that celebrated itself in a disused church hall. Maybe I had too many pints of Adnams Broadside in The Basketmakers beforehand, […]

That’s interesting: so “diegetic” music happening inside the drama costs more than “extra-diegetic” music added to the soundtrack. I thought it would be the other way round, but I was wrong.

2. White Heaven-Out

A fish and chips lunch about 12 years ago was my last GY trip, I like the Suffolk /Norfolk Coast, what with tales of the old Saxon/ Viking landings and MR James stories etc. Cromer in Norfolk is the best: […]

That should be “concept” album, obviously.

While we are here, this is good. And evidence that they wasted a lot of a material when they made a SF Sorrow a concert album.

It is a good album, and I slightly prefer it to SF Sorrow (which is a bit too gimmicky), although I still think they were best at doing singles. But the oft-repeated story that Rolling Stone named it their best […]

I have an attraction to box sets as a way of tidying up the library, so to speak. Pere Ubu’s “ Data Panic in the Year Zero” is especially good for fans: every release they did in their first run, a live album […]

Lovely review, Rigid Digit, and I will definitely hear this. Mould and Husker Du really were immense, and now underrated. I agree about the Grunge connection: I could not get into Nirvana that much at the time as […]
