Ha! That’s the first thing I thought of too. I listened to that single, and Merry Gentle Pops, so often when I was a kid that I reckon I still know all the words now. Christmas wasn’t Christmas without a new Bar […]

I’m thinking about joining up now, if it means I am going to have a gun in the vicinity of the keyboard player from Level 42. I’ll spend the rest of the war in military jail, or in front of the firing squad, dep […]

I get bemused when I see the display dedicated to K-Pop in the HMV in Sheffield. I’ve never seen anybody looking at it, but it must sell, because the display is always there. Kids today don’t half listen to some rubbish.

Being a penniless nurse, I always had one of those all in one hi-fi systems. It was a good one though, but when I bought my first house I went down to Richer Sounds at Swiss Cottage and treated myself to a […]

The summer of 76 my grandad died. I recall my dad being sad, but not as sad as he was a year later when a fat bloke expired on the loo.
And I got badly sunburnt, whilst my hay fever kicked off big style. Me and […]

Yes, first you get robbed illegally by the bogus tradesman, then you get robbed legally by the courts and the retrieval company. I would be far better off had I not bothered trying to get any of the money back.

Don’t get me wrong, there are players who have made gestures to the home fans at Oakwell that I have no problem with. Nathan Blake’s shutting up of the racism in the bad old days for starters, or Paul Sta […]

Well, for starters, when he played away matches for Stocksbridge, wearing his ankle tag, he had to be subbed at half-time so that he could get home in time for his curfew.
He’s the only player I’ve seen at Oak […]

I recently read [listened to!] the two Ian Bell books, and quite frequently I got the impression that Bell doesn’t really like Dylan or think he’s much good. He seems to praise far less than 10% of Dylan’s work.

I attended a talk with Heylin a few years ago and had a brief chat with him afterwards, and in person he comes across far better than his opinionated writing makes him appear.

My brother knows one of RV’s ex-husbands. Not a lot of nice things to say. Jamie Vardy is the most detestable footballers I’ve seen at Oakwell in a long, long time, so it’s nice to see he has found his perfect soulmate.

Better then Clinton Heylin’s similar books? Don’t let Clinton hear you say that!

I can’t point you to a builder, but I can point you to mistakes I made when desperate to find a builder. Net result, no building work done, or rather some done to a beyond amateurish fashion to give the pretence h […]

I have a couple of these on the wall (scroll through their catalogue and you’ll find Stephen Duffy and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, added at my request) and they look fab.

There were one or two gags on Mrs Brown’s Boys early on that were quite good. The story about her losing her virginity on the bus was a cracker. I’m not sure why it became more than something that people did […]

US Office is brill, or at least it was when Steve Carell was there, once they got past the awkward first few episodes that were based on the UK ones. And Arrested Development is up there as the funniest show ever […]

Ah, I gave up after two episodes, which was the other day, funnily enough. I found it all a bit too forced and badly edited and the delivery of the lines was a bit too much like an awful American kids show my […]

I met David Warner a few years ago. A lovely man. We talked about the bonkers The Ballad of Cable Hogue, as I’d just seen it. He was thrilled, as he said it’s one he rarely gets asked about. He told me that Pec […]

I once got into a barber’s chair that Damon Albarn had just got out of and remember thinking I use the same barber, pay the same price, but how come you never make me look as good as him?
